What problems could degenerated disc cause?

My mother has chronic low back pain. Her x rays image shows degenerated disc. What problems could it cause? She’s on pain killers all the time. Please post back.

Degenerative disc disorder is very common in adults because is caused by natural process of aging. It rarely requires surgery. Treatment includes mild daily back exercises, physical therapy, treatment that encourages circulation and improves flexibility. It’s important to eliminate tobacco and have a good dietary program.
