Hello! My friend has just come back from skiing. He went with his classmates to the mountains for five days and he had wonderful time. The problem is he has come back with red and swollen skin on his face although there was no sun at all. He said he visited his dermatologists and he told him it was a windburn. What's a windburn?
Hello! Windburn is a skin irritation where the top layer of oil is removed from the skin, causing excessive dryness that leads to redness and a burning feeling. Skiers are usually affected since they face low humidity, direct wind, and cold temperatures. Windburn is often mistaken for sunburn since the symptoms are the same. Your friend most probably didn’t wear skin protection and didn’t use any agents to moisture his skin. Nose, lips and ears are particularly susceptible to windburn.
