I would like to hear something more about Abdominoperineal resection surgery? I mean, what’s left when they remove the anus in that procedure? I ask this for my father, he is 56 years old and he has cancer of the lower parts f intestines, including anus. What should he expect?

I must say that it is not an easy procedure, especially because of what comes afterwards. He will most probably stay in a hospital for another 5 days. He would be given pouch immediately after the surgery and in those couple of days he would be taught how to use it. Sometimes, the nerves of the scrotum might be damaged, disturbing the sexual functions, let’s hope it won’t come to that…
