| I am 19 years old, a smoker (yes, I know it’s bad), binge drinker (yes, I know that’s bad too) and bulimic (which I am sorting out). About 3 months ago, I discovered I was pregnant and had an abortion (I would like to add at this point that I am usually very careful and always have protective sex – it was the condom which failed, not me). I was given the Depo Provera birth control the same day. The nurses were more concerned about the after care of the abortion that they failed to tell me the side effects of the injection. Whilst looking on the internet to find what I had put myself in for – I discovered to my dismay that the Depo Provera was renowned for its weight gain (needless to say this does not help my bulimia) and decided that I wouldn’t go in for the next shot. During the 3 months, I had continual spotting, which I had checked out and the doctors found nothing wrong with me and said it was common for spotting to happen for the first injection. I finished the Depo about 2 weeks ago and now the spotting has become a lot darker and more frequent, but still does not seem to me like a period as it only shows on sanitary towels. Is this normal for a person in my situation? Needless to say that my boyfriend and I were both worrying that there might be some serious problem which the doctors have not picked up on. |

Hi
I think this is a year later. But I still will reply.
The shot or any b/c pill can give you spotting or even long extended heavy periods. Its pretty normal. If this is still going on you need to go to your doc and have a some blood tests done to see if you have any imbalances going on, in which then they can give you some meds to help you out.
Also, as I read your story, it def seems as though you have your share of prob's. May I suggest you try and cont. to straighten 'em out. You will be happier if you do. Esp the smoking, thats so bad for you.
Take care. |
