Hi! I have one question about bypass surgery. Well my grandpa needs to have this surgery next week. I heard that it’s one very complicated surgery and now I’m very worried. Still I don’t know why he needs to have it. Can somebody explain to me when is bypass surgery needed?
When plaque buildup narrows an artery to about 70% of its normal size, the artery is essentially blocked. As you probably know, the aorta is the main artery that carries blood from the heart. Less severe blockage can be relieved by angioplasty and stenting. But severe blockage usually requires bypass surgery.
