When is lung transplantation nedeed?

Hello! My friend suffers from pulmonary fibrosis and he told me he decided to try with lung transplantation. He made all needed examinations and his health condition was shown to be good enough to carry out the surgery. I am very afraid and I think there may be some other ways to improve his condition. When is lung transplantation needed?

Hello! Pulmonary fibrosis is a progressive disease with no cure. Current treatment options can only relieve the symptoms and improve the quality of life. Lung transplantation is needed to replace the destroyed lung with the healthy one and it is understandable why your friend has decided to do it. If he waits too long he may get another medical problem or become helped with medicines which will make him suited for the surgery.
