I was reading this discussion last night because I had a painful white sore develop under my tongue. I woke up this morning and my tongue was still sore but I have some swelling on the right hand side of my mouth so I decided to go to my doctor. Good thing I did because it is a CANKER SORE and left untreated it can spread in your mouth. The doctor told me not to touch it or try to pop it. He gave me a prescription that he told me to apply via q-tip. I drink coffee every morning so he thinks the acid from that and my mouthwash aggravated it. I was told to stay away from anything acidic until the sore goes away.
The doctor also suggested rinsing my mouth with a Milk of Magnesia and liquid Benadryl to take down the swelling (mix the 2 together go light on the Benadryl).
This is what my doctor suggested to me. I suggest if your mouth is infected you have a professional look at it just to make sure it isn't something worse.

I get these sore every once in awhile, but it seems like that is too often and so i have been contemplating going to the doctor. i have been getting them since i was a little kid. it looks almost like the bumps are just enlarged cilia on your tongue, like maybe just one or two cilia are infected with something. i currently have about 6 on my tongue right now in a little patch. hardly any websites have answers to this, they suggest things like leukoplakia which is pre-cancerous, but it cant be cuz this has been happening to me on occasion for probably 8 years. they are very irritating i know, but if youre brave enough, cutting them off does work...once theyre gone it doesent hurt at all, but the process is a bitch. ue ans ice cube, or anbesol to numb the area, and then you can squeeze and pull with tweezers, cut with a razorblade or X-acto knife, snip with nail clippers, or maybe even bite if you want.

I had one of these and I started questioning my students about it. They all told me to pull it off. I also asked the music teacher and she said the same thing. She went on to say that she had had one before and that she just pulled it off and it immediately stopped hurting. So when I got home I got my 8x's magnyfying mirror and found it and pulled it off. Guess what! It immediately stopped hurting. I wish that I had asked them about this 4 days earlier!

More than likely, you all have a condition known as transient lingual papillitis. It's completely harmless and is simply an inflammation of the papillae on your tongue. This happens quite commonly when you have a viral infection, similar to how your glands become swollen. It's simply part of your immune response...so it's no surprise you all happen to be sick at the same time! Smile

Whatever you do, DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE YOUR PAPILLAE!!! These are those things which give you our wonderful sense of taste. Don't be insane...let your body have its normal immune response cycle and things will then go back to normal.

Take care and good luck,

Michael

the bump on my tongue is on the right side. it wasnt painful @ first but with each return it gets more & more painful... i also got food lodged in my tonsils from a hole that just recently appeared. my glands were swollen & the hole was on the same side as my white bump. It doesnt pop either... it just hurts... what is it??????

Hey, can anyone help me out here? I'm a 15 year old male that's never smoked before, and about four days ago I woke up and my tongue was in quite a bit of pain. I examined it, and on the right side, toward the farthest back of my tongue there were a few lumps, and they were quite painful when I touched them. I read up on this today and I believe it may be just a canker sore, but I am wondering if it could be something more serious. It hurts when I move my tongue, and when I swallow, but when I rinse my mouth out with mouthwash it seems to help for about five minutes. Please, give me whatever information you can.

Regards,

Taylor

ya i been getting these off and on. They come and go i dont know what the heck they are, ive had them on the side of my tongue and on the tip. When the are real sore its when they are white and you can see them. when they are healing the white starts to fade and the soreness goes down. and they start to turn back to normal color but still remain there. not fully gone. I recently noticed it was nearly gone and when i went to bed i was having a beer and before bed doing homework..then it got late and couldn't sleep so i took a xanax to help go to sleep....i woke up in the middle of night and it was back, then i brushed and mouthwashes and even swished peroxide around, then went back to bed and when i woke up in morning it was back to the normal spot before the xanx and sleep. I been taking 1000mg of vitimin c and brushing constantly. This is actually the longest and worse case i ever had. Usually they would disapear in a day or two. Its been like a week and they wont go fully away. All i know is that i didnt' get a lot of sleep one night so i was real tired....i think that left my immune system weak. I don't think these things are herpes or anything cause it would spread....but i am worried it could be something like a virus because i have gotten it off and on for a long time......i really think it has to do with stresss. but it does cause a wierd taste i really think its a reaction from a combination of things.....people and not STD. I could write on and on about this
