Posted: 01/24/07 - 17:15 Post subject: get rid of foul smelling white chunks! |
|
|
ok ive had the same problem as well with coughing up these foul smelling little white clumps. it annoyed me so much that I wanted to figure out where they were coming from. So I looked in a good mirror with a bright light and searched around in the back of my mouth. I then realized that when I breathed out hard with my mouth open, my tonsils would flare and there appeared to be white on the inside of them. I have had tonsillitis before, however this did not look the same. So I decided to go in there with a Q-tip and try to remove the white stuff from the inside of my tonsils. And it worked! I was able to remove much larger pieces of the smelly whiteish clumps and didnt notice any more smaller ones being coughed up for quite some time after that.
My doctor said that its just food particles that get into there and virtually rot. Hope this helps! |

im 15 so my issue on this is defineately on about the social aspect haha. These effin chunks i think are giving bad breath because sometimes if i cant get them out they just stay there and thats when I can notice MYSELF my breath I hate the feeling when i cough them up. So is gettin my tonsils removed really the only solution???? |

| Finally I hear from other people who have the same problem. I too have had these white chunks since I was a little girl. My older sister would gross out when I would tell her about it. But my doc told me that the only thing to do is to cough them out or scrape them off. I think it's easier said than done. I can't cough them out and I'm too scared to try to pick them out. Thanks for all the info. All these years I thought I was the only one with this consistent problem. |

| WHAT A RELIEF! I am not the only one! I have been suffering with the "stinky white chunks" coming out of my throat as long as I can remember (Tonsil Stones). Anythime I asked anyone about it they looked at me like I was nuts...and shoot how many people can you look in the eye and tell that you have gross white stinky chunks that come out of your throat into your mouth. I have read through all the different entries and short of getting your tonsils removed the best solutions seem to be...1) Learning which food (milk products, carbs, etc) seem to cause it the most and eliminating them from your diet 2) The peroxide/water mix mouth wash to be gargled (no alcohol or sugar mouth wash) 3) The waterpic or syringe bulb filled with warm salt water aimed at the pores in your throat 4) Gental squeezing/pressure on your tonsils to bring the chunks to the surface and then remove with your cleaned finger or Q-tip. Can anyone think of anything else? We clean our skin, our privates, under our nails, our ears, eyes, belly buttons...so why not our thoats too. |

| I once had what you are talking about. It is call pharyngitis. All you need to do is spray Vicks 44 throat spray on the bumps and it will go away. |

| Wow, I finally found the reason for those aforementioned stuff that came out of my mouth. Thanks everyone for letting me know what it is. I had a fear it was cancer or something... I just saw my doc today and he will be referring me to an ENT specialist. I think my case may be triggered by inhaling solder fumes. I remember a couple of days back I choked on the fumes and had difficulty breathing. I'm guessing this reaction caused excessive mucus built up, resulting in stones a couple of days later. I'll try to check for stones in the mirror later today. Thanks for the advice. |

Sigh. i've had this since childhood. I thought all the while that it's an abnormality that i have to accept for the rest of my life. Only to find out now that it's commonplace after all. Thanks to the internet technology. it's so easy to find out about anything effortlessly.
About the white chunks, you might puke if i tell you that I've developed the habit of squeezing the chunks with my fingers and smelling them to see if they ever change the way they smell. But they always smell BAD, as in... |

| I have quite a build up of the white particles also, however when I stick my tongue out as far as it can go, and cough, it exposes larger ones, I've had some that were the same size as a dime. The foul smell is something I couldn't compare to anything else. I always feel a "drip" of mucus like substance in the back of my throat, and when I breathe in i feel like the back of my throat is sticky-wetness and the air feels cold. When I clear my throat, mucus very similar to snot comes from the back of my throat into my mouth. I find myself with shortness of breathe quite constantly, Ive had these symptoms as long as I can remember; but have quite a fear of doctors so going to an office is out of the question. |

|

This picture is it... I was told that people who smoke pot get this... So I stopped, and it went away... I tried pot again, and the chunks are back...
It smells like an open sewer when you break it open...
I thought it was from scraping my tounge, and the stuff I missed was building up... I can taste the odor on my breath when I breath out my mouth, yet I asked others if at that point if they smell it, and they don't... I coughed it up, squished it, and made them smell it, just so they know what I have to deal with...
Could pot create this???
| jdpritt wrote: | I think I may have something similar! It has been happening off-and-on for several years now, usually in the winter months. It is usually accompanied by foul-smelling breath and sometimes with sinus pain.
The chunks I cough/sneeze up are usually more of a pale yellow in color rather than a white and are usually very small - no larger than the size of a BB shot.
I have attached a scan of one of the larger ones that I sneezed out yesterday. Does this look like what you are talking about?
