Why are antihistamines considered a controlled substance?

Why antihistamines are considered a controlled substance? Why do we need to checked up before were prescribed with those medications? How all that works? Do you know anything about this? If you do, please write, my son will need all that tests in order to get his prescription for antihistamines. Thanks in advance!

Some medications can have dangerous side effects, can affect you sleep, driving, can cause addiction. On the other hand some people are not supposed to be using medications that can provoke addiction. In cases like this a patient must pass throw some checking. Usually we do that for controlled substances. Antihistamines are considered a controlled substances.
