I'm a 30+ male diagnosed with treatemnt resistent ADD. Over the past 5 years or so I've tried strattera, ritalin, adderall, wellbutrin, dexedrine and desoxyn with little or no benefit. My longest treatments have been on ritalin and desoxyn (about 6 month each). I've also had behavioral and psych counseling while on meds and off them and tried 4-5 differrent SSRI's (I'm not depresses, but my doctors thought it might help with the ADD or that maybe I was depressed or had dysthymia in addition to, or instead of, the ADD - so we gat them an unsuccessful 8+ wk try for each SSRI)
I stopped all meds about 4months ago, but recently an old friend came to visit and brough some crystal meth with him. I never used any drugs before except prescritption (I did smoke pot twice in my late teens but didn't like it), and I don't drink, so even though it was out of character for me, I did do some with him.
He gave me some to snort and it burned like crazy. After I snorted 3 times (he did more like 5 times) he asked if I was feeling good and I told him I didn't feel much of anything. I tried two more lines, but still I didn't have any response. After a while he brough out a glass pipe and I smoke a 2 times which he told me would make me feel like I was in heaven, but with the exception that I didn't cough like I was dying (like I did when I smoked pot) I didn't get any kind of pleasurable response from the smoking either.
About the only thing I did get was insomnia, which I got from the Adderall and Desoxyn when I took them, but this was much worse and lasted more than 24 hours. About 2 weeks after he left, I took 270mgs of desoxyn left over from before I stopped taking it to see if maybe his crystal meth was really something else. I had the same reaction I did when I did the crystal meth with him, no good feeling and wicked insomnia. All along I never could understand why people would become addicted to ritalin, adderall or desoxyn and I always assumed that it was becasue I was taking less than they do and taking it orally. Now I feel that there maybe a more signaifcant neurochemical difference with me and most others.
Do you have any ideas why I didn't get the kind of pleasurable hit that my friend (who has been using it for almost a year) did? I'm hoping that an answer might point to something which would help with my ADD.
Thank you. |

Please pardon the paraphrasing.
I'm a 34 male also ADD and Also been on Cilert and Ritalin for several years with little no benefit since childhood. I have been depressed much over the years off and on and SSRI's helped only a little maybe but not enough to warrant taking them any longer. Valium and other benzo’s don’t work much for me even though I know people that practically become goofy from 10mg of Valium. I’ve taken up to 40 with no real effect.
At 29yrs old I experimented with elicit drugs. I went 27 years al throughout school with no interest in trying drugs. A friend offered to do Crack Cocaine with me. I did smoke pot but also don't care for the smell or strong smoke. Plus pot just wasn’t my Schtick, I don't drink only except for special occasions.
She explained how to do it with the glass pipe she got her hit then I tried. After she got her hit, she asked why I wasn't feeling high I tried again, with no dramatic response. She said I wasn’t doing it right. We tried a different way with tin foil and a pill bottle but still nothing but she was in a different world.
The only thing I got was heart palpitation. I believe that people with ADD or other neurological problems may not respond to certain prescription or elicit drugs due to the fact the our neurotransmitters are askew.

I wont tell what gave me the response you’re looking for because I have a conscience and it almost completely wrecked my life. I’m an addict now. Needless say I successfully found my as you say pleasurable hit. I paid dearly and it certainly didn’t offer any help with the ADD.
Please be safe and don’t look for trouble because it may just find you. Stick with your doctor and don’t give up
