I’m 34-year-old women. Lately I’ve noticed that I was falling to some kind of depression.
Why? I don’t know because there was no reason for that.
Beside that, I felt also unexplained fatigue and even a weight gain, and I’m sure that I eat now as I was eating before.
My husband made me to visit my general practitioner and so I did.
I ran some test and he discover that I suffer from this disease called
hypothyroidism.
He also described me a medication called Synthyroid.
Could someone tell me more about disease, medications and possible side effects of it? Thanks!

Hypothyroidism (underactivity of the thyroid) occurs when the thyroid gland produces less than the normal amount of thyroid hormone.
Thyroid hormone is one of the most important hormones in human’s blood because it has an increasing effect on body metabolism, on your food digestion and, among other effects, on your psychological state.
There are many causes of hypothyroidism: autoimmune mechanism, goiter and some medications.
The goal of your Synthyroid treatment is to establish and maintain a normal level of thyroid hormone in your body.
Since most cases of hypothyroidism are permanent, you most likely need to treat your hypothyroidism throughout your lifetime.
So, you will feel much better after a month of using Syntroid and all your depression, fatigue and weight gain problems will be ancient history.

| I too have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism, and take synthroid. I took it very faithful at first and I think it helped and then I quit for a while and since starting again havent been very faithful to take it like I should. I have heard that if you start taking it and quit it can make things worse. I hope something I have said might help and I would love to hear anything you find out. |

| I was asking questions about whether I will ever be able to stop taking drugs for hypothyroidism and the doc told me that it all depends on amount and type of thyroid disease . She said that I could stop for a week or two, and check my TSH. It is high this means I will have to take it forever. I believe that this answers your question about stopping and again taking synthroid. But I don’t think you should do it on your own, I believe it is a doctor who changes a dosage, right? But, if a person suddenly stops taking synthroid, s/he may experience some problems. |
