The Eyecare Trust charity warns that the hot chunky summer glasses represent a safety hazard on the road for the female drivers.

Popularized by Kylie Minogue, Paris Hilton and other celebrities, the wide-armed sunglasses with ultra-dark or tinted lenses that limit peripheral vision are being worn by one in eight women in Scotland.

The survey conducted showed that less than two in five women wore driving-specific sunglasses while nearly three in four did not wear sunglasses at all while driving in bright light, which was found to represent a safety hazard as well. Around one in four had driven with dirty lenses, while one in five had scratched lenses. Dangerous may also prove to be sunglasses with pink or blue lenses that can easily distort vision.

With all the dangers ahead of them, women are being advised to pick neutral lens colours that provide true colour definition. Perfect would be grey and brown. Very dark lenses, worn by one in ten Scottish women could also prove to be fatal.

Fashion-conscious women should have their awareness risen about the possible fashion hazards especially on the road.
