I am so glad to have found this forum, it is a godsend. I have been feeling extremely moody and depressed for the last few months...I started on Yasmin about 4 months ago. I'm experiencing the exact same symptoms...crying for no reason, severe depression, hopelessness, fear to go into work, self criticism, and I've been attacking my boyfriend over nothing...I thank the good Lord that he has been so understanding and has seen me through it...I did not take Yasmin yesterday, but I feel better this morning. This may be just because I know that I have finally found my problem. Also, this pill has made me put on 4 or 5 pounds that I've been trying to lose for the last 4 months, killing myself in the gym 6 times a week, exercising more than any human being should have to unless they are a professional athlete. All this and I can not budge a pound. This has also led to great frustration. It's well worth using condoms to not suffer through this crap any longer.

so glad you made the connection between your problems and yasmin. If its any consolation this pill had affected many women in this way.
And you will notice that now you are no longer taking it the extra weight will fall off you without even needing to go to the gym.
if you want to discuss this with other women who have been thought this please visit a site called
createforum dot com/yasminsideeffec

STOP TAKING YASMIN! I was on the pill for 2 years, and in that time hospitalized twice for severe depression, resulting in self mutilation. I stopped taking the pill, and in about a week i was no longer struggling with depression.

Finding this forum was a blessing.
I'm getting to the point where I do not know what to do anymore.
I've been on Yasmin for almost 2 years now and I frequently experienced mood swings ranging from one week before my period to 2-3 weeks.
Recently, my feelings of depression, anxiety, paranoia, irrational thoughts and fear have been increasingly worse...I've been feeling sick to my stomach for about a month and a half now. I cry at the drop of a hat, like many of you women have said yourselves, I am also intensely suspicious of my boyfriend and do not trust him [which started a month ago as well, for no good reason] I feel apathetic to my university schooling, I feel like I do not enjoy my usual activities anymore and the overall feeling of constant dread keeps me from concentrating and getting things done.

I had an inkling for a while that it was the BCP Yasmin that was potentially contributing to the symptoms, but they would never last more than 2 weeks so I just let them slide and pass....now, these feelings are getting way too overwhelming. I have no history of depression in my family nor have I ever been on antidepressants. I feel like I am falling apart and I don't feel like me. My fear is doubled when I think of what this could mean for the relationships in my life. I don't even enjoy being around those I love when I feel this way.

I am seriously considering going off the pill however I don't know if I should consult my doctor first?
Do you need to notify your doctor if you choose to take a break from the pill??

For those of you that went off the pill after experiencing depressive symptoms, for the most part, did the symptoms improve ?
Any cases where getting off the pill made it worse??

I am also worried about not getting my period.
My reason for starting Yasmin in the first place was to regulate my irregular cycle [I got my period every 6 months without the pill]
Is it all worth it?

I really did think I was going crazy and that it was all in my head and all the medical info on the internet didn't really specify much about Yasmin causing these abnormal symptoms....I am so relieved to see other women going through the same thing and am seriously hoping that stopping Yasmin will help me the way it helped some of you!

Has anyone had these symptoms with YAZ (the reduced form of Yasmin)? I have had a lot of the symptoms that have been described with Yasmin. I am stopping the pill immediately! Has anyone had vertigo with this pill? I have had it for a couple of weeks.

In response to the question about yaz, the only difference between the two pills is that the estradiol in yaz is lower than in yasmin. but it is not the estradiol that causes most problems, it is the type of progesterone called drosperinone.
the amount of drosperinone is the same in both of the pills.
Please visit the forum i have mentioned below. It is for women who feel that they have been affected by yaz or yasmin. I cannot post links so i have spelt it out.
If you manage to find the forum and want to post something, mention that you had posted on this site and then i will know who you are.

PostPosted: 06/03/07 - 17:09    Post subject: Yasmin is poison! Vote now! Reply with quote

I'm 39, with one child, rarely drink, don't smoke and am healthy. Although after a ten pound baby, my arse is now the size of a baby Orca...but that's besides the point. I had not been on birth control for some time because my new husband had a vasectomy many years ago (lucky me - I know). I was prescribed Yasmin a couple months ago for painful/heavy periods and some painful cysts on both ovaries and my GYN thought it would help. It did help with my period greatly and I haven't been on it long enough to know how it has affected the cysts - BUT after two months of feeling weepy, absolutely exhausted to the point of feeling ill, insomnia, weight gain (5 lbs in one month) major heart palpitations and left shoulder pain, waking up with anixiety attacks of which I am NEVER prone at any time.....and other symptoms like demonic possession, speaking in tongues and horns growing out of each side of my forehead *lol* Evil or Very Mad - I stopped after my second pack!! Oh yes! And it's a good thing I stopped because I have run out of room in my backyard to bury all those people who cut me off on the highway!!!

Since I stopeed like 2 weeks ago, I immediately I have energy again, am losing weight, have no more palpitations. I still have occassional chest/shoulder pain but it is brief and I do still have some night sweats, horrible dreams and still wake up feeling panicky, but not as much. I've only been off for a couple weeks but MY GOD....what an improvement!! I'm really pissed at my GYN for prescribing this! I read another forum that said to Google "Yasmin side effects" and I'd find a forum all about the sad side effects women have experienced on this BCP. It is clear that's it's like one of the most horrible pills out there and I can't fathom why GYN's still prescribe it! I was absolutely horrified when I read the posts on that site and my symptoms didn't get anywhere near as horrendous as many other women experienced. I'm so greatful I found the info, as it convinced me to stop taking it. I am now looking into more natural ways to help with my heavy and painful periods and the ovarian cysts, such as copious amounts of Tequila, chocolate and massages (ha! I wish!) and if this is why you have been taking Yasmin, you should look for a more natural alternative. I'm trying Wild Yam to see if that helps. I do hope this has been of help to someone. Oh yeah, by the way....the exorcism worked! Woo hoo! Laughing
Good luck!

hi to the last guest who described yasmin as poison.
I was the poster who recommended you google yasmin side effects.
I am so glad you found your way to our site. Have you posted your experience yet.
I am a member of the site and use the name "murph".
So glad you have stopped taking the yasmin and i hope you continue to get better. Through forums like this, eventually women who do not know their side effects are being caused by yasmin, will see the light.
O, and by the way, i know all about turning into the devil with horns while on yasmin too.

PostPosted: 06/12/07 - 17:56    Post subject: Depression from Yasmin BCP Vote now! Reply with quote

I am 25 and started Yasmin about a week ago. its strange but i am feeling quite depressed and down. i am not sure if it could be the Yasmin or if it is just me because I am usually quite under the weather. I have taken anti depressents though and feel a lot better but now this is happening to me. Im very worried.
I have also suffered from anorexia and am so worried that this pill will make me gain weight. i have gotten better and less tense about my weight but since i have been on the pill, the anxiety of a possible weight gain is very extensive.

This is strange, i have manic depression and pcos. I have been put on the Yasmin contraceptive pill and my manic depression is so much better now! I now have only very mild mood swings.

However, when i come of the yasmin pill for the pill-free week, i get moody, angry and depressed - has anyone else experienced this?
