My story is so similar to the stories I've read here. I was on Yasmin for 5 continuous years and during that time, I developed anxiety, IBS, unstable blood sugar, and migraines. All these symptoms creep up on you slowly so I didn't connect it to Yasmin at first. In the last year, the anxiety took over my life and I couldn't handle normal situations. I became a totally different person. Finally I made the connection that it all started on Yasmin and got off it.
It's appalling that Yasmin is being touted as this wonder pill when it has damaged so many women's lives! Something needs to be done. At the very least there should be a clear warning about these side effects so we can make an informed decision.
If you have any doubt about getting on Yasmin, don't take it. |

| I have been taking Yasmin 28 for only 2 weeks and three days, I stopped taking it today, I think its driving me nuts. I get burning muscles and panick attacks, cant get my work done, afraid to go out, just dont know what I want. I also take thyroid supplement because my thyroid was removed. I wonder if its a reaction between the two. Righ now I feel like things are unbearable. |

I was on yasmin for a little more then a month and my personality changed completely. I slept all the time, was extremely depressed and lost interest in going out and having fun. I also began freaking out at my boyfriend of two years and became very jealous. I thought about suicide and realized it was the pill, and cried all the time! So I stopped taking it after about 1.5 months and noticed a difference within 3 days. I feel so much better now and I'm so glad I went off that pill.
Straight up, yasmin was awful for me. I am now on tri cyclen lo and so far its been really good, fingers crossed.
My recommendation for anyone who experiences negative emotional side effects from yasmin is to stop taking it before you become severely depressed and anxious like I did. It's not worth it at all, I would rather have the awful cramps I began taking it for in the first place. |

| Wow!! I am so relieved to have found this site and all of your comments. I started taking Yasmin about 4 months or so ago and my life steadily fell into a pit - i stressed all day and night - had major anxiety attacks - didn't sleep because of the anxiety and basically thought my life was a mess. I kept thinking, why, all of a sudden is my life a mess? why am I a loser so suddenly? Nothing has changed... and then it hit me. I switched pills! it was the only variable that had changed. Thank you all very much for validating my suspicion. I am truly grateful. |

| I took yasmin for 3 months and had horrible mood swings, depression, sleeplessness, and weight gain. Then I tried Ortho-Tricyclen, which lasted a month and was worse than the Yasmin when it came time for side effects. After that, I was switched out of a phased pill into the mono-phased Zovia 1/35. As it turned out, none of the phased pills work well for me, I have to have a consistent pill. I've been on the Zovia for a year now and have lost most of the weight I gained while on the Yasmin. I encourage anyone who has had the same problems to consider trying a mono-phased pill. Zovia is apparently an oldie, but a goodie for me. |

| I am so relieved to read all these posts about depression after taking Yasmin. I used to be on BCP years ago (can't remember what I took, but it wasn't Yasmin) and never had any side effects. Since starting Yasmin last month, I have been crying constantly and feeling extremely depressed. I feel panicked and feel like my life is at an end or should be over. Very scary! I felt like I was going crazy. My biggest fear was that maybe there WASN'T anything wrong with me and I really was crazy. I know that sounds weird, but it's such a relief to know others have experienced this from taking Yasmin. I am making an appointment with my OB/GYN this week to see about changing BCP. Thanks for everyone's stories! You've really helped me! |

hi guys,
after reading all your comments i wanted to share my Yasmin story/nightmare.
i always took alesse, but I moved from canada to australia and when i ran out of my alesse i went to the doctor. he had never heard of the brand name alesse and said i'll prescribe you yasmin.
i don't know why i didn't argue more or ask more questions. i started taking yasmin just over 2 months ago. it started with what i thought were normal switching-over symptoms like nausea, extreme fatigue, and breast tenderness. then, the bloating and weight gain just got out of control. i was exercising more and eating healthier, yet i kept gaining weight. the first week of every new pack is the worst part, i am extremely sad, depressed yet almost numb like i just don't care...i am SO not that person!
the final straw was this week, i feel as though my stomach is going to explode from the painful gas and almost IBS-like symptoms.
i HATE this pill and i feel like it has completely changed me, like no other pill has ever done. i stopped taking it just today and i want to know when will i feel better? |

Wow, I'm really surprised to read your experiences.
I'm on Yazmin, but I've not experienced any of these symptoms. maybe a little nausea and a headache here and there, but other than that, no problems at all!
i honestly hope you all can find a pill that works for you better than this one did. |

| Reading all of your comments helps me to finally not feel crazy! I've been at a loss as to what is happening to body. My OBGYN switched me to Yasmin 3 months ago and my life has fallen apart. Shortly after beginning Yasmin, I began to feel depressed, anxious, and irritable. My migraines (which had been under control) returned at a rate of 4-5 a week. I had trouble sleeping, snapped at loved ones, felt ineffective at work and was generally miserable. I never made the connection that it was the Yasmin! I finally refilled an old birth control prescription this month out of desparation. Hopefully things will improve soon:) |

Posted: 11/18/07 - 21:49 Post subject: panic attacks caused by Yasmin |
| I was having a very long period so the physician's assistant (my doctor was not available) prescribed Yasmin. She told me to take 2 for the first day. I did and that very night I had a panic attack. Although at the time I thought I didn't know it was a panic attack. I thought it was a heart problem because I was having heart palpitations, and i felt like i couldn't breathe. That was the worst feeling ever. I figured it was because I had taken 2 of the pills at one time but the same thing happened when I took just 1. Yasmin really messed up my emotional state. I had panic attacks for 2 months. I still have them a year later, but they are once in a blue moon and not at all as bad as they used to be. I also often have an unsettling feeling. Thanks to 5htp and knowing that I can't actually die from a panic attack, I am doing much better. Needless to say I will never take Yasmin again or take a ridiculous dosage of any medicine. |
