| Hey girls! Sounds like we all have the same problem! I have been on YAZ birth control for a month and a half now and this month has been the hardest of my life. This is my first time ever being on birth control and its HORRIBLE! I have had nausea, tiredness, breast tenderness, cramps for the past week and i am like 2 and a half weeks from my period, and it gives you major anxiety! AND DEPRESSION! This has not been a good pill for me. I had such bad cramps in my ovaries, i went to the doctor and they thought it was an appendicitus! Also, this pill is a pregnancy scare pill, it gives you symptoms of pregnanacy! and I'M A VIRGIN! I am on the pill because my period was 14 days long and cramps were so bad, but guess what! They are worse during the whole month! In the pills defense i am not sure if it does this to everybody or this is just my body but i do know that there are other girls who are having similar symptoms, and i am currently not taking the pill and i feel alot better! |

I started taking this about two months ago and I feel great. Actually, I feel better then I have in years. I feel normal. I don't get moody or emotional. I feel like I can think about other things than sex... hhaah. My Acne has gone away,my period is only three days. I did have some spotting though, that is usually only when I miss a pill though. I only take the pill for acne & mood stabilization, not for birthcontrol, so I don't worry if I miss it. When I have the spotting. I stop for a few days, then start again and I am fine. I really, really love them though. Maybe it just isn't right for you guys, because it seems like most of you didn't have a preexsisting disorder and it's too much or doesn't work with your chemicals correctly. I would say definitely just use a regular birth control. |

|
|
| I switched from Yasmin to YAZ about 6 weeks ago (hoping for less weight gain) and have come to a shocking discovery. I have recently been diagnosed with SAD and was managing very well with my light box when I switched. For the past 3 to 4 weeks, I have had serious depression, sadness and crying. I could not figure out why my light box wasn't working. (Especially with Daylight Savings Time happening earlier this year!) I was about 2 days away from starting an antidepressant because I was so miserable! I believe that my depression has been caused by YAZ. I am quitting immediately. I hope this helps someone else too. Nothing more useful than other people's collective experience! |

| I was on Estrostep for a long time but switched to Yaz. I've stopped taking it however because of the MAJOR mood swings I was experiencing. I dealt with depression years ago and I was starting to feel like I was going down that bad road again. It's been 2 weeks since I've taken it but it seems like my symtoms are not going away! Does anyone know how long it may take to start feeling back to normal? I don't have anything to be depressed about, in fact my life has been better than it ever was before?!?! What's wrong with me?? |

|

I feel like the odd man out here...
I went on Yaz early February after I had a 9-month hiatus from the birth control pill. I previously suffered from PMDD (and probably still do) and was weaning off Lexapro. I hadn't had a period since I had gotten off the BC Pill and didn't think that was quite normal. I was then diagnosed with PCOS and told by my OBGYN to try YAZ. So far my main issues are the headaches that are pretty much daily, my breast tenderness, (sooo sore) and the fact that I had to switch to daily contacts instead of the normal wear.
I have to say that I am much less emotional than I was when I was on NOTHING and when I was on Loestrin and/or Ortho Tri-Lo. There is MUCH less bloating and hardly any weight gain.
I didn't get my period after the 1st month (kinds worried me), but then into the 2nd week of the 2nd pack I started spotting and that lasted 16 days...no 'real' cycle. I stopped bleeding for a week and just yesterday started spotting again. I have another 5 days left on this 2nd pack, I've made an appointment to see my OBGYN on the 10th, hopefully this is helping and the cyst are gone. From the phone calls that I have had with her she seems to think that I will be symptom free in a few more weeks. We’ll see. |

|
|
| I am 48 and have been using Yaz for 7 months to control abnormal bleeding associated with peri-menopause which resulted in anemia. I am 5'7" and have maintained my weight at 130 - 133 lbs for 15 years. Yaz has made an incredible difference for me in controlling the bleeding. My periods are mostly light, one heavy flow day and last for a total of 3 days. I feel it has helped even out my emotions and I have little or PMS. The 2 side effects I am experiencing are lack of sex drive and an increase in appetite. I have gained 7 lbs -- that's 1 lb per month! I really like that my periods are normal and that I no longer need to worry about anemia, but I do not like the other symptoms. I plan to discus options with my GYN soon. |

| I started Yaz 3 weeks ago and felt like I was on steroids. I would become very angry for no reason and my mood swings were incredible. I had formerly been on Loestrin and will be returning to it immediately. I stopped the Yaz 4 days ago and my mood has improved 1000 fold. Bad stuff. |

Posted: 04/02/07 - 13:40 Post subject: First month of YAZ |
|

I just finished my first pack of pills. I switched from Depo-Provera which was working GREAT for me, but my OBGYN was worried about bone-loss since I'd been on Depo for 6 years, and she suggested YAZ because of the low estrogen (Depo is progesterone only).
My breasts have been sensitive with cycles in the past, but they have been BEYOND sensitive since I started YAZ- and it doesn't go away! When I roll over at night I wince in pain because they are so sore, and it hurts to take my bra off or put it on. I can't stand having them touched, even washing has been painful.
I am also having trouble sleeping (maybe related to soreness, maybe not?). I can't seem to get my brain to calm down enough to go to sleep. I don't know that I would classify it as "anxiety" because it isn't usually negative things I am thinking about, but it's just that I can't stop thinking and fall asleep, even when I am exhausted! I started self-medicating with Tylenol PM, which seems to help with the sleeping and the cramps. I've never had problems sleeping before.
My mood has been fine, except for irritability around sex (which also could be related to the breast issue, not sure). I'm worried about gaining weight (isn't everyone?). My sex drive has had a lot of ups and downs (never have had such ups and downs in the past). I've been having some dizziness periodically, and some stomach cramping sometimes at night...
Is this going to go away after 3 months of use? It seems most of the posts here are from beginning users like me. I am wondering if there are any people who found that the side-effects lessened after the set "few months", or if for most people they have gotten worse?
Is there anyone here who is taking YAZ because they have probs. taking estrogen? I have never used estrogen because I used to get migranes with headaches in the past, and there is some interaction between that and having a stroke- so I was left to choose between Depo and the mini-pill. I shyed away from the mini-pill because you have to be very stict about taking it the SAME TIME every day. And Depo isn't good to use in the long-term (bone-loss), and I'm looking for an alternative birth control that won't make me fat and/or crazy. |

I'm a 45 y/o mother of 3. I've been through it all. 3 c-sections, you name it. I started taking Yaz about a week ago for heavy bleeding. Since then, I cannot concentrate, I am having splitting headaches (I NEVER get headaches ... until now). I have Crohn's disease and my symptoms have become much, much worse. I have had a tubal ligation so I'm not using it for birth control anyway, but after visiting the site, I'm getting off it. I have a degree in biology and worked in a hospital for 10 years. I know a little something. I have a tendency toward blood clots and I have a chronic inflammatory disease- in light of that, I don't think I should have ever been prescribed this medication.
Also, why is a college student a moderator of this site? And, I thought the remarks were condescending made by the moderator in regards to "sweet" and "candy", etc. Don't talk down to us. We're not stupid. |
