It is almost a year that I've been on Yasmin and it was one of the worst things in my life! The first two months I bled non stop (which killed my summer) and within the year I have gained 20 pounds. I feel bloated all the time, I have horrible mood swings and not to mention unbearable period cramps! My doctor prescribed me to take Yaz, and so I will begin to take it at the end of the month. I'm kind of nervous because I don't want to bleed for another 2 months straight due to the switching. It is supposed to be a lot better for me considering that I have went through horrible symptoms! Sad

I think it is most important to note that everyone's body is different...sounds to me like both Yaz and Yasmin are both excellent choices of B.C. but you just need to find which one works best for YOU!

I got put on Yaz at my 6 week check up after I had my son. I only gained about 30 lbs in pregnancy - and had about 10 more lbs left to lose at this point. 3 months later, I lost about 20 lbs! (10 lbs more than I 'needed' to) Yaz was wonderful for me. When I had about a 6 month insurance lag I got off the pill, and then was put on Yasmin. I swear this pill makes me feel like I am pregnant or something. I have gained about 7 -8 lbs in two months Sad and feel as if I am hungry all the time. I am tired, have EXTREME headaches (I've never really gotten headaches in my life), my face is ridiculously broken out, my PMS is out of control (pre and post) and I feel like I have a lot less patience.

Needless to say, i will be starting back on YAZ as of tomorrow. I am really hoping that it will help. Even with my insurance, it is 50.00 MORE a month than Yasmin - which SUCKS! But I don't mind paying fifty bucks for a happier life Smile

Hope this helps someone out!

I started with ortho try cyclin - (1 month: i became horribly emotional, bitter, hard to be around)
so i switched to yasmin - (9 months: not bad, but i wanted to try yaz..)
i was hoping that on yaz my periods would be shorter and i would loose some of the weight i had gained on yasmin. Instead, i seem to retain weight in my thighs and stomach and the periods are more or less the same length as they had been on yasmin. Not only do I think i was slightly happier on yasmin but i overall liked my body more, so i decided to switch back. My doctor also approves of my switch back to yasmin because yaz's lower dose of estrogen can apparently affect bone density in younger women.

someone earlier mentioned that finding your birth control is all about trial and error- and this could not be more true, just try to find a pill on which you feel comfortable.. good luck!

I've been on birth control since I was 16 (I'm now 23) for PCOS which causes very irregular periods. Some of the first I tried were Ortho tricyclin (however you spell it!) and Nordette. I hated Ortho because it made my acne really bad until I finally got on Accutane, which for those of you out there that bash it...I had HORRIBLE acne and after only 6 months on it I had clear skin and have not had acne since! I am so thankful for Accutane!!! Anyway, Nordette was wonderful but my doctor switched me to Yasmin later because it was supposed to be better. I really didn't notice any difference between Nordette and Yasmin. Well, in the past 6 months, my new doctor decided to put me on Yaz. All doctors seem to be prescribing it. Two of my other friends are on it as well. Since switching to Yaz, my periods are very irregular. I have spotting all but maybe 10-14 days a month. And worse, I've suddenly developed racooning of the eyes (brown circles around the eyes). It's VERY noticeable!!!! I'm about to start on Yasmin again because I hate what Yaz is doing to my skin and I hate the irregular periods. My other two friends are experiencing similar problems. One of them bled for 3 weeks straight and is terribly hormonal. I DO NOT recommend Yaz to anyone! It is so over-priced and doctors are pushing it for that reason!! It is not a better pill; just new.

I was on Yasmin for about 3-4 years and I really liked it. After I went off of Yasmin, I got pregnant (it was planned.) I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks, had a D&E, got an infection, had to be hospitalized and have another D&E. After 3 months of non-stop bleeding, I went back on the pill. I really wanted to go back on Yasmin but my doctor gave me Yaz because he had free samples of it and I wasn't planning to go back on it for long because we wanted to try again. I am having breakthrough bleeding still after being on Yaz for almost two months. I'm not sure if it is miscarriage related and my hormones are still all messed up or if it's the pill. I really wanted to go back on Yasmin from the beginning so that I could compare apples to apples, but now I don't know what is causing the spotting because I'm on something different. I'll be 29 soon and I want to get pregnant again so I don't think it's worth switching to Yasmin now but I'm pretty frustrated. I went on birth control to stop the bleeding and now it's starting up again. I also liked Yasmin because there was a generic available that only cost me about $8. Yazmin costs me $25. Still not horrible but I regret taking the free samples and going against my instinct to go back on the same pill that I was on before.

I've been on Yasmin for a few years now and just switched to Yaz. I see that it has 24 active pills vs the 21 active pills in Yasmin. I would like to know on what day should I expect my period. On yasmin my period started on day 25, the 4th day of inactive pills.

Hi there, if you've switched over, I think that your period would start right on Day 25 as far as I know, although I suppose that remains to be seen. I think your period starts at the same time though. Can you let me know if I'm wrong about that? Thanks!

After about 4 years on Yasmin I switched to Yaz. I don't know if it was just be but the switch was BAD. I was on it for almost 3 months then I just couldn't handle it anymore. Like someone else said it's a lower dose and knowing what I know now about stopping the pill altogether what I was experiencing could have been completely normal. When I stopped the pill I went through a period of time (about 3-4 months) that was horrible. I was so unhappy and it was only because my hormone levels were all screwed up, they do eventually level out so if you experience a depression I would call your doctor and see if it could possibly be because it's a lower dose and your body is adjusting. Hope I helped Smile Good luck!

Hey there healthnfitnessguy, thanks for your input. I just started my 1st pack of Yaz so it'll be a while before my period. If it happens as you suggest I will let you know..if not, I'll still let you know:D. Again thanks for your time.

I haven't heard much good about Yaz, and I'm sorry that you had such a hard experience with it! I can't believe it actually caused a depressive fit in you. Are you still on it or have you switched back to Yasmin?
