| i was on yasmin for 3 years and it worked great, i gained a little weight at first but was able to easily take it off. a couple months ago i switched to yaz, and i had recently lost 25 pounds..well i put on 10 pounds in a month, while dieting and exericising. has anyone else had this problem? i dont see any other reason for the weight gain, so i was just wondering if anyone had anything similar |

| When I was a senior in high school I went on Yasmin because I had heard so much about it and my gyno gave me a few samples to try. Well I did try it and LOVED it and stayed on it for about 2 years until my gyno's nurse suggested I try Yaz. She said it was about the same thing and I get shorter periods. At first I felt good, but around the second pack I started getting horrible headaches, my periods would stretch out to a week instead of a few days, I would breakout, and I had terrible mood swings. Interestingly enough, my best friend started getting the same symptoms as me after taking Yaz and she hadn't even been on birth control before, so I had the feeling we probably weren't alone. I don't know why I switched, but I am definitely going back to Yasmin because Yaz is just evil!! |

| i was on yasmin at first and my doc wanted me to try yaz b/c of the lower hormone level. i felt fine...the same emotionally/mentally, but i had a lot of breakthrough bleeding. yaz only kept me period free for about 12 days/month with spotting the rest of the time and a 4 day real period. yaz was terrible for me. |

I took Yasmin for a few years for irregular periods and acne, but then my doctor decided that he wasn't going to refill my prescription anymore, so I had to go to a gynecologist for it. I told her while I was there that Yasmin was working great for me, and I just needed a refill. So she put me on Yaz.
Worst. Thing. Ever.
It made my irregular periods even worse! I never knew when I was going to get my period, and I had breakthrough bleeding almost nonstop. Not to mention, it made me start to break out again.
I went back this morning to switch back to Yasmin, and I had to force her to put me back on it, and even still she said that she was going to give me Yaz too for when I 'decide to switch back'!
I will never go back to that gynecologist, and certainly never back to Yaz. |

I was on Yasmin for three years in college and LOVED it. I got skinnier and my boobs got slightly larger and my skin cleared up! It didn't make me moody ro crazy. Hooray! But during my senior year for some reason I just started having my period all the time, so they switched me. But I wasn't really happy on any of them. I just felt so off. Finally they put me on Yaz. It was the worst decision I have ever made. I got seriously depressed and apathetic and I completely LOST my sex drive. I was miserable. Within a month of going off of it, I'm just starting to feel like myself again. Now I'm not on anything and am researching my options.
Yaz is great for a lot of people, but use it carefully. If you notice yourself feeling off or down or not interested in your boyfriend, don't just assume you are stressed. Talk to your dr asap. It takes a while to bounce back from Yaz so if it bothers you, get off of it as soon as you can. But for you ladies it works for, you are lucky! It does completely get rid of PMS, which was great while it lasted! |

I just had my doctor take me off of Yaz. To the lady above who mentioned the weight-gain on Yaz WHILE dieting and exercising, this is exactly what happened to me. I know my body, and there is something not right with Yaz and weight gain. I felt as if I could go a whole week without eating a bite of food, and I would somehow gain weight. To sum things up, my body feels like it's pregnant, when it's not. My boobs have grown (which is not a good thing because I am already large in the chest area), I have headaches, extreme fatigue, no libido at all, and constant spotting. Also, the price of Yaz was burning a hole in my checkbook.
I just requested to get put on Yasmin, and I'm really hoping things will go back to normal. I used to be on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, which worked just fine until it stopped being a strong enough pill for me.
My skin is beautiful on Yaz, but I never had skin problems to begin with, so the sacrifice is small. It did take away PMS, but the other side effects ended up not being worth it in the long run. Dieting without any results is AWFUL. Hope this helps! |

I was on Yasmin for months even after bariatric lapband surgery. I recently was switched to YAZ after being off pills for a few months so that I can go on Accutane. I have gained about 9/10 pounds in 2 months even with a lap band. I really cannot eat much so it isn't my diet. I have maintained a steady weight for a year and a half being on Yasmin... so I know it is because of YAZ.
I just called my gyn to change me back to Yasmin. |

WOW! Am I glad I came across this website! Depression, hair loss, weight gain, tired all the time-I thought this was all just me!
I started taking Yasmin about 3 months ago-and like someone else on here I mistakenly asked for Yasmin instead of Yaz.
Now I do want to start on Yaz but now I also see you have weight gain on Yaz as well..? Just got married in April and have gained almost 10 lbs since April '08 ):
But thank you all for your comments it has really answered ALOT of questions. |
