this board is pretty scary all in all.
I am 37 and haven't used BC in over 15 years. I am mainly on it for reduction in bleeding and some mild acne. While I have only been on it for a couple weeks, I feel ok. Some of the symptoms were there but not overly noticeable. Funny, I think after reading some of these posts I was LOOKING for those symptoms and maybe a little paranoid hearing the horror stories.
The big test will be after my first pack and then my period. Will keep you posted ladies. Fingers crossed. Smile

I just found out I have PCOS in November, and my gyno put me on Yaz, I started in January. I got my first period on the 16th of February. The period STOPPED on the 25th, but I was spotting brownish blood until just yesterday, when my second period began. Both periods started on the last inactive pill day. This one seems lighter than the first, and I'm hoping it doesn't last as long and the breakthrough bleeding (or whatever it was) will disappear.
Side effects for me that just started in the past two weeks:
-sore breasts (and mine have actually grown, which I'm not happy about)
-random outbursts of crying...absolutely no reason for it
-I get headaches more frequently
-Been a little depressed/much more emotional
-Very tired
-Loss of appetite
-Extreme nausea (and in the past few days I've been throwing up like mad)

My gyno DID warn me about these side effects and they ARE mentioned in the little booklet, so I'm not too worried. She said after three months I should be all sorted out. So, I just started my third pack today....I guess I'll find out in another month or so.

Oh and for ladies with PCOS (and without, it works for you too)....I have noticed no change in symptoms really. No hair loss, no slower hair growth, I'm actually breaking out a bit more than usual...Idunno. Maybe this will change as time progresses.

Basically I'm surprised at the amt of people complaining about this pill because I mean, yes although I do get some of the side effects, overall it works pretty well.
I agree that birth control pills work differently on everyone but I mean all of the things everyones talking about like the breast tenderness and the depression and such, it's all clearly stated under side effects. I went on it because I realized I had PMDD, I wanted the sexual benefits, and I wanted shorter, lighter periods. I've been on it since last April and so far it's worked really well for me. My moods are better. Instead of having my period for 8-9 days I have it for 5. The cramps last one day instead of five which is a plus.
Yes for the first month of taking the pills I had all the discomforts, bleeding/spotting everyday (the entire month), breast tenderness, I was aching all over. But after the preliminary three months everything was okay. Instead of having 2-3 migraines a month I now only have one. So all in all I'm happy with Yaz.

Have not been on birth control for ages..had to get helpm from fertlity drs to have a child but as older age sets in maybe periomenapause the cranky effects and pms were killing me. the same dr. that helped us conceive our child told me to go on the low dose yaz for my pms and just gave me a rx for it! Im bad enough w/out it it looks. Im already loosing hair and cranky i dont think i will get the rx filled. It bothers me that if my dr. that knows me and should be concerned about my well being would even suggest this!I would probably go from bad to worse!

Sad

I have been taking Yaz for only 2 weeks and noticed a tingling sensation in my left hand.. what does this mean? I have taken Ortho TriCyclen for years and my OB/GYN gave me some samples of Yaz to help combat migraines. I have noticed that I have been very irritable and my breasts are tender and I cannot brush my teeth without getting sick (I have taken 2 pregnancy tests because I experienced the same symptoms when I was pregnant with my daughter 2 years ago..) All tests are negative and I know that the booklet says that this can happen, but my goodness! No thank you. I will be switching back to my TriCylcen immediately!

well i started taking yaz in january and i think starting at the beginning of may i have become very tired lately.. this is really the only symptom that i've noticed so far.. the fatigue usually starts around lunchtime and by 4 oclock i can barely keep my eyes open.. its awful... im not sure if its because of yaz.. but im guessing it probably is..

I started taking yaz almost two years ago. I have always been a very happy and active young women. I started dating this guy and eventually we started going out, so I decided to go on the pill. My Dr. put me on yaz. A few months later, I started acting crazy. I was always extremely anxious, crying, depressed, sad, and just not myself. I didn't even notice how I was acting, I just knew I never felt happy anymore. Eventually, my boyfriend broke up with me. I started going to talk to a life coach to try to get help. I felt like everything was crashing down on me. In my first session, she recommended I go off the pill. I already am starting to feel better, besides the severe bloating I am experiencing from going off the pill. However, I lost someone who I loved because I was not myself. I will NEVER go on the pill again. I am still trying to get better, because I have lost a lot of things due to the way I was acting when on the pill.

I am a 45 year old woman who went off BC pills 6 years ago because of severe migraines during my period. 4 months ago my doctor put me on Yaz for PMDD symptoms and to control my 2 week long periods. I had about a 5lb. weight gain, enormous appetite, bloating and gas, anxiety and irritability beyond what I was already experiencing and some breakthrough bleeding. Headaches started the second month, but not so severe. My doctor told me to stick it out for a while. She was right. After the 4th pill pack I am feeling better. My appetite has returned to normal, have gained no more than 5lbs, anxiety and irritability are gone, bleeding between periods has stopped. Pros: My periods only last about 5 days now and are only heavy about two. I also used to drink a glass or two (sometimes more on the weekends) of wine a night. I craved it and often wondered if I was on the verge of becoming dependant. My craving for all alcohol is gone. I have no urge to drink at all and Yaz is the only thing I can contribute it to. I say give it a try.

A lot of people have said the price of Yaz was an issue. I'm currently taking samples and doing very well. My insurance will pay 80%, but if it's incredibly expensive that won't do much good. Can anyone just tell me what is a typical price of a month's supply of Yaz? And I mean full price without insurance coverage.

I've been on Yaz for 2 months and just started my 3rd month yesterday. I went on it for PMDD and had major moodiness before Yaz. All of the emotional problems a lot of people are complainging about, I experienced for a week before my period. Since I've been on yaz, I have not had that problem at all. When I tell my friends I'm on my period, they say, "Wow! I couldn't tell. Usually, I know right when you're getting your period!" My first period with Yaz was a little rough though. I had some pretty bad cramping, but this month, the cramping only last for about a day or two. I only had cravings my first week, but I haven't gained any weight. I've actually lost weight. I really like Yaz so far, and I really think it's working. I know it's different for everyone, but if you really do have the symptoms Yaz is supposed to treat, then you should get better, not worse. Everyone is deffernet. But after all of those horrinle reviews, I thought that some people might want to see some positive stuff about Yaz.
