Hello,

I am new and this is my first time. I thank God I found this website because and I am desperate for answers. I am 40 year old female taking 125mg of Effexor daily (not Effexor XR). I have been on this drug since 1993. I totally loved taking this drug because it works great for depression and anxiety attacks (which I have learned to control). On the other hand, I hate the feeling like I'm "floating through life" and ready to get off this drug.

Both my husband and I are very healthy eaters, and we eat the same thing. He has it all; low cholesterol, normal blood pressure, and normal weight, yet I have gained over 50 lbs since I have been on this drug (I don't have a metabolism any more as far as I'm concerned). My blood pressure has increased from normal to high and my cholesterol jumped up to 253. I am tired all time, dizzy at times, blurred vision, heart palpitations, muscle twitching and the list goes on. I am tired of all of this want to get off of this drug.

I have tried numerous time to wean off, but I get these horrible "Shock-like electrical sensations".. and the feeling of my head is swimming in a pool -- (like my brain doesn't move as fast as my head)... I don't even know how to explain these horrible withdrawals!! Crying or Very sad

I would like to know has anyone *SUCCESSFULLY* stopped taking Effexor (not Effexor XR just plain Effexor - not sure what the difference is) without having the withdrawals symptoms still there? What were your experiences and how did you do it?

Thank you so much for your time and your help, I appreciate it..
Blessing to all.

BD

I have been on antidepressants for over 8 years and Effexor XR 75 for about 6 years. I have tried to withdraw cold-turkey in the past but only get to 4 days because of the side effects. This time I am trying a dose every second day but I just feel like I am going to throw-up all the time. I can manage the headaches and feeling a bit strange but does anyone have any suggestions on how to manage feeling constantly nauseous? It's worse than morning sickness!

Iv been one a different tablet. Twice in the last 2 years. Each time for different reasons.
I will give you my experience, even tho i dont know anything about the type of tablet you are taking.
First i was on them because i lost my mum. I was on a low dose 10mg
But the doctors advice to me on how to get off was. An this lasted weeks!!
day 1 take normal dose
day 2 bite in half.. only having half dose.
day 3 take normal dose
day 4 take half an so
I suggest you do that for may be 2 weeks as your dose higter.
Then normal dose
then 2 days half dose
then normal dose
then 2 days half dose
An so on for another 2 weeks
Then do to half dose contiually for another 2 weeks
Then half dose
next day ( may be you might neen to quarter it but) i had nothin.
next 2 days half
next nothin
The following week was reversed
half one day
then 2 days nothin.
Then as it went on it got less an less.
Hope this helps. I had to write it down on a calander so i kept track or it.
The next time was because of PMT an hormone probs
Im on them again at the min.
The doctor gave me the same tabs cos i was ok with them last time, but i felt like i was floating like you said. The doctor reduced the dose to 5mg
That worked.
Iv put weight on tho. Someone told me thats because they slow down you matabolisum. Im starting to ween myself off them again now.
Hope this helps you. x
