I should do endometrial ablasion next week. I’m 65 years old. I’ve heard that ablation is much more comfortable than hysterectomy. How long does it take to develop recovery after endometrial ablasion?

A friend of mine had ablasion 2 years ago. It takes up to 6 weeks after the EA to keep having brown discharge. Exercise should be avoided for at least 2 months. They say that it takes 8 weeks for woman to recover completely, but some women can have normal activities even 3-4 days after the ablation is done. My friend didn’t have postop problems and recovered completely a month after surgery.

I had uterine ablasion surgery one week ago tomorrow. I had cramping after the surgery, but more period-like. I had brown discharge for about 3 days later. I woke up on day 4 with again cramping and bright pink discharge with a small clot. Has anyone else experienced this and if so did you get it checked by the doctor. It has been one week since the surgery and the cramping and discharge is not letting up.

How are you now that it's been over a month since your surgery? Hopefully much better... I'm 43 and I had uterine ablasion done on 5/8/07. I was told that I could return to my normal activity and exercising if I feel like it as early as the next day, but to avoid sex, tampons, etc, for at least two weeks I'm also suppose to avoid lifting my 2-year-old, but that is hard to do. I haven't had any brown or pink discharge...just more of a yellowy-watery type...and it's enough to fill an everyday pad, not to mention that their is a slight odor to it. (TMI) I do have cramping and bloating. (I hate that!). I am also somewhat queazy after I eat anything. This is all probably not unusual, but I plan to ask my doctor tomorrow. My follow-up is scheduled in early June.

Hi all

I had my ablasion done on Monday....4 days ago. I had planned on being back at work on Thursday, but I feel such heaviness in my abdomen. My thinking is that there may be some swelling still present. My employer was nice enough to give me Thu-Fri off. Today is Thursday, the first day I did not take any pain killers. My mind is better, I'm generally feeling physically better. I do have to say that I have taken the time, took the pain pills and just allowed myself to sleep. I prepared nutritious meals to get me through my recuperation. I think just taking the time to heal, rest, sleep and eat nutritiously is a big factor. I look forward to taking on the works without having the live under the shadow of my period. I am having only the most minimal of discharge, there is NO odor if you use the right pads. I feel Poise is best, they are designed for people with bladder problems. So far, so good. I have a follow-up appt in 4 weeks.....nothing will hold me back now!!
