My father was so unfortunate to get some kind of "face disease" that is called Bell's palsy disease. He got it two days ago. It was so sudden without any sign of disease before it struck him. He was very scared although he had tried to hide it. Doctor has given him first Prednisone for treatment, but then he has included Acyclovir. Can you tell me why that is? Is Acyclovir better than Prednisone?

Both drugs are used in treating the Bell's palsy syndrome. Prednisone use in Bell's palsy is not perfect according to studies. But it gives good results in the first five days. Acyclovir is used in addition to Prednisone. It helps improving its affects. Acyclovir is lees successful if you take it alone then Prednisone. Together they have the biggest effect.
