How long is it safe to use acyclovir in herpes infections? I’ve developed reinfection of herpes simplex virus and it is exposed as mouth sore. I take acyclovir tablets; I’ve started 3 days ago, when sore occurred. Acyclovir causes me stomach pain and weaknesses, so I feel completely ill when use it. Mouth sore usually heals within 3-4 weeks. How long should I use these tablets?

Well, it depends on what your doctor prescribed you. I think that it is individually and that there is no established period for every patient to be same. I use acyclovir ointment for 7 days when have mouth sore caused by hsv. There are no side effects like nausea and stomach ache when use topical form of the drug. And it also takes for about a month for sore to heal completely.
