Hello to you too! I will just tell you that advair helped me a lot. I experienced some weight gain at the beginning but soon I went back to normal, so I am pretty satisfied with it!!!

Hi there-
I took Advair for about a year and a half and I thought it was helping me. Unfortunately, it was hurting my vocal chords. I found this out late last summer and discontinued my usage of the drug. I have found out that through usage of NeilMed's Sinus Rinse, I have been able to cut out most of my prescription drug usage for my allergies. I also do take shots once every other week for my allergies. Most of my problem is allergic rhinitis, and so clearing out the mucus really makes the difference. Advair and all the others only masked my problems, never solved them. The sinus rinse, even though it is a pain to do, is REALLY worth it. I do it twice a day now, though when I first began it about a year ago, I did it up to four times per day. I'd highly recommend it to you and anyone you know with allergies!!!!!

Advair was basically coating my vocal cords, causing me to not be able to sing and lead worship at my church. I was hoarse all the time and miserable because I couldn't sing. After i ceased taking Advair, all of these problems ceased for me.

Good luck to you!!!!!

HI, I used Advair 5 years ago for 2 weeks and ended up in the Emergency room with abnormal "t waves" in my heart EKG...this I thought was an unusual side effect but am hearing about it more and more..I do have a heart murmur which may have aggravated it but if you experience any abnormal heart rhythms please discontinue using advair and call your doctor!

I was put on Advair for the second time - this time a higher dosage. My asthma was never terrible, but after my second dose ran out my asthma has never been worse. In fact last night I almost had to take a trip to the emergency room. I have been taking Primatine Mist every 20 minutes just so i can breathe.

I moved to Seattle from Tennessee some ten years ago and began using Advair and swear it made my attacks much more life threatening. I have since moved back to Tennessee and my asthma has never gotten back to the way it was, which was manageable at one time. From the time I used Advair to now my asthma has increased and the attacks are brutal. The stuff is bad news.

I was diagnosed in 1998 with asthma, which remained dormant until about a year ago. I began having problems and was started on multiple meds, Advair being one of them. I began to get worse and worse, thus my doctor increasing the advair dosage to the maximum dose. After missing much work intermittently and then being off work for the past 4 months my doctor finally sent me to a pulmonologist who said all tests were OK he didn't see any problem. By now my frustration was mounting. Went to see a second pulmonlogist who walked in and said he thought I had VCD and referred me to an ENT. I asked him about all the asthma meds and he told me to quit taking them, which I did. After about 1-2 wks my breathing started getting better but when I tried to return to work, experienced major problems. I can barely make it through one shift and the next day wake up with my throat so tight I have difficulty breathing, coughing, and my voice is gone. (I work in a factory and it is very strenuous). I saw a speech therapist for the first time on Mon, but after working last night I am back off my feet again. After reading the leaflet in the Advair box when I got it last year, I kept my eyes open for possible side effects and questioned each doctor about it and it wasn't until the second pulmonologist saw me that I was taken off of it. I believe in my gut that Advair caused my problems. The frustration and stress that I have been through over the past year is unimaginable. Being off work for so long has caused major financial problems, not to mention being confined to my apartment all summer and not being able to get out and enjoy life. I think they really need to do more research on Advair and vocal cord dysfunctions and confirm if there are any connections. If not, pull it off the market. No one should have to go through what I have been through this past year.

Well, this reply is a little late, but maybe someone will read it anyway...

I was on Advair for years, and the end was not good. Like Sarah, it destroyed my vocal chords, making me quit choir in high school and ultimately leading to surgery and a biopsy on the polyps found on my vocal chords (and trust me, I gargled plenty). Also, like many of the other comments here, Advair makes your attacks worse if you miss doses, but besides that, in a small number of people (such as myself, and maybe more people than known...), over time it makes your asthma generally worse. I am now on Asmanex, an inhaled corticosteroid without the serevent part (but that works better than Flovent alone, from what I've experienced), and not only has my asthma gotten LOADS better, my immune system skyrocketed and I got my full singing range back. I too am now very curious about the link between vocal problems and Advair, because that destroyed years of my life and cost thousands of dollars, and there was no warning on that box then (or now). Justice should be served for that...

I was put on Advair two years ago. My husbandis a bit of a naturalist, and didnt like it. I took his advice & went off for a while. My asthma only got worse. I went back on and then back off. Struggled with only using a regular inhaler - salbutamol - so went back to the specialist who told me I was only making matters worse for myself. I am back on Advair and shortness of breath is worse than ever. My voice is raspy and I cant seem to get by without it. I have been researching like crazy to find any other solution!! I dont think it is as safe as they would like us to think!!
