My son is going to have appendix suggery next week. He’s in hospital. He’s 5 years old and has been ill never before. I hope that this is not so serious condition. What should I expect after appendix suggery? Please post if your child had one.

Recovery from an appendix surgery is usually rapid. It may require use of medications, but complete recovery is expected quickly. My son had appendix surgery 15 years ago, and I may say that living without appendix causes no health problems. Scar left on lower abdomen and that would be all.

Hello im 21 years old, I had the exact same thing happen to me, one day 2 years ago (19 at the time) I woke up with pain in my right side along with a fever and fatigue. Went to the doctors and after a load of "compromising" tests they finaly came to the conclusion it was the apendix. I was admited that day and had the sergery early the next morning. It was about an hour or so sergery and i was out the whole time, when i woke up i was in quite a bit of pain and disorented. For about 3 days it was very bad pain when i moved any direction and i couldent walk without screaming out in pain.
It took me about 4 days to fully be able to walk, i also had nothing but ice chips to eat since the sergery. Then finaly the 5th day came and i was awoke to a lovely hosptle breakfast of eggs and oatmeal, ill tell you even though it was horirble food i was like a kid on chistmas lol. I went back home later that day, it took about 2 full weeks till i was 100% the first week your out of the hosplital can be hard becuase you still have the staples in and its hard to walk, but they give you a walker to go home with so its not to bad. All and all in comarison to other sergerys its very very minor.
Exspect a few things that might scare you that happend to me but where normal.
-Blood in stool, infact the day after the sergery i did nothign but blood which freaked me out, but its very normal just your body taking out the exsess blood from the sergery.
-Scaring depending on your weight my scar is about 4 1/2 inch long and took 5 staples the staples where taken out a few weeks after the sergery and it was totaly painless most just fell out on there own so no need to worry there.
-ALOT of pain in the first few days, dont even think about walking.
Now i was 19 at the time and your son is 5 so im guessing it will be alot less trouble with him then it was with me becuase of the healing power at that age.
I hope this gives you a general idea of what to exspect with your son, my mom was by the bed 24/7 with me even at age 19 lol i couldent have dont it without her. So dont worry he will be just fine, a bit of pain but nothing serious =). |
