My father is cured alcoholic. He left drinking 5 years ago. During that time he was sober. His liver recovered and he was a healthy man. But for some time he has experienced night cramps while sleeping. A friend of mine told me about alcohol myopathy. Is it possible that my father has this?

Between one-half and two-thirds of alcoholics have evidence of decreased skeletal muscle strength caused by alcohol myopathy, a condition that improves but witch might not disappear with abstinence. Repeated heavy drinking can do damage to skeletal system including increased risk for fractures and night cramps. The best for your father is to see a doctor and find out what is happening.
