Certainly should go to your doctor if alcohol causes pain or flushing. Something called carcinoid syndrome exists which alcohol causes those type of symptoms. Obviously not everyone with those symptoms has it, but I would check it out.

Pain and or flushing when drinking alcohol can be a sign of carcinoid syndrome. Certainly something to ask your doctor about.

People stop seeing the Urologist and see a good gastro. About anxiety... never listen to someone who tells you what you have is just anxiety if you know it's not.

I listened to people like that for years until I got sicker and went to see some specialist.. not only was none of it in my head.. going to the doctor saved my life. I told my gf this after we met and after three months of ignoring me and listening to friends she started throwing up blood... turned out she had stage 4 cancer.

Im recent months I seem to get back pain after drinking alcohol, even if it is just one glass of wine. I did have kidney stones less than a year ago so wondered if there was a connection? The docs got one stone out after several attempts and I had 3 uteric stents at separate intervals, so a lot of poking around, under general anaesthetic too. They said the second stone was too small to remove and was lodged in the kidney and would either pass out on it's own, stay put or grow and cause more renal colic, great.

The pain I get after drinking can be either side or both and not necessarily the same kidney I had the stones in.

he same happens to me! If I drink these days I know I will be vomiting the next day - for up to twelve hours. I love to drink, so I wish there was a cure!

I usually find that stopping for a month before drinking again helps for a once off, but it always ends up the same after a few nights out!

I hate to think I was one of those people who depended on alcohol to have a good time... but i think I am!

Help!

Sounds like anxiety?!?! Who the hell gets anxious when they drink? Maybe during a hangover when the body is depleted of b6 and b12. This can cause a little more stress... where the hell did you get your medical degree?

I had the same problems with my kidneys. I had a kidney infection years ago that caused what I call a spasm that radiated from my lower back up to my neck. I got over that but many years later I started having the spasms again and also pain in my right kidney. I mentioned this to my oncologist(breast cancer survivor) and he said we needed to get it checked out. It turned out that I had a kidney tumor which turned out to be a renal cancer. Since the surgery I have had no more pain.

I think it is due to kidneys....

I can relate to your problem. I have experienced the same thing. I am 31 years old and stopped drinking 6 years ago. I used to drink a lot, but then slowly over time it seemed that my body develped a sensitivity to alcohol and I woudl get severe cramps, diarrhea, pain in my whole body...it even hurt to breath. I am too scared to even try to take another sip, but I wish there was more information on this. If anyone else has had this experience please let me know.

I have the same thing. Every time I drink any alcohol (it might just be a half a pint of cider or an alcopop) a couple of hours later or often the next morning after I've slept I get severe stomach pains/cramps and more often than not have diarrhoea (lovely isn't it...)

I've just stopped drinking it, but being only 18 it's hard to go out with friends and watch them have a good time knowing that I'm just going to be a misery all evening.

Well I have the same issue. I have had it for years. I have never been a huge drinker. I hate beer. I found that beer actually made it worse.

Sometimes in my case it doesn't even have to be alcohol related. Mountain Dew and Mello Yello have the same effect. Also if I eat too fast as a resturaunt while slurping down too many refills of coke.

My trick is, if I know I am going out say with a client. Whom sometimes look at you funny if you turn a drink down.

Drink a carbonated beverage e.g. a coke pepsi what ever root beer works well. If you have to burp, DON'T not yet. Take a shot of vodka or other straight liquor. Instantaneously my stomach will go into spasms. That burp you was holding back try to get it out. As soon as I burp the pain almost instantly dissappears. Also just do one shot. I am not a doctor but it is like some kind a hypersensitivity thing.

I may only drink once every 6 months. Sometimes I will eat right before and also take a shot of pepto to coat my stomach. I only do this when I know I am going to be out on a buisness deal and clients sometimes insists that come ol buddy have a drink.

It does ease the pain alot doing this and for the rest of the night I am free to drink. Anything beats that flushed faced, hot, incredibly painful symptoms as a result.

For the record I have been to a doc, had a upper GI scan, some other test where I had to drink some liquid for a CAT scan and some other tests. Everything looked good the doctors told me. Mainly becaus eit isn't just alcohol. Sometimes just over eating in one sitting. I am always on the go so I eat like a cheetah. Sometimes only one meal a day.

My doctor said it was probaly my whacky eating habits. He put me on Nexium and I tried a diet and to manage my eating schedule. It has helped a lot. Now alcohol is my only issue. Since I don't drink a lot it doesn't bother me. Yet sometimes I wanna have some fun when I get a chance and unwind from my crazy lifestyle.

Hope this works for some of you.

My mother could have just one sip of any alcoholic drink & she ends up with stomach cramps & sore red spots around her eyes.
I have recently read that this can also be a symptom of Non-Hodgkins Lypmhoma?
http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/pagerender.fcgi?artid=1010854&pageindex=1#page
I don't believe it's anything to do with stress - like some posts are mentioning.
If these symptoms are indeed connected to Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma maybe it's worth mentioning to your GP, rather than seeking answers on the internet & awaiting a reply Question I've noticed on these sites, some questions are without replies for over a couple of years.
I think a full blood count is whats needed to put minds at rest & if diagnosed treatment started asap.
