I need to know what is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis prognosis. Doctors said that we should not hope for much, but I cannot cope with the fact that my father will never get better. He is 57 years old, still in a good shape and now this happened. Isn’t there some new therapy new medications that could help him get well. Is there no hope?

I am very sorry that this fatal illness happened to your father. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a condition that requires full time care, eventually. There is no cure and no known cause for this disease. Estimated time left for your father is 3 to 5 years. The only improvement in this field is medication Rilutek, which extends life of a patient for another three months. But, sadly, that is all.
