Hi, my friend is 43 years old male and he had family tragedy several months ago. Since then he is very depressive and his doctor prescribed him antidepressants. Hi, I was taking antidepressants for several months. I would tell you my experience so it may be useful for you. You have to find smallest possible dose that will show effects and try not to change it by your own. Also if you decide to stop it does it gradually because sudden stop may cause quite opposite effects and even worsen your friends condition.
