anyone taking trazodone for help with sleep?

Trazadone is a great drug for people who have issues with sleeping. I have been dealing with insomnia for years and find that just 50 mg of Trazadone is just enough to help with getting to sleep and hopefully staying asleep, as long as one of our children doesn't have a a sleeping issue themselves. If you are just trying it stay with it! Everything takes takes time. I have learned that a good nights sleep really does make a difference. Smile

ive been takeing trazodone for two months 200 mg a nite i sleep like really well. as otthers have said dont sleep for 48 to 72 hours.ita a real****
ive seen no ill side effects yet

if ive worked for 16 hours or so i sleep fine
but other then that id be up for days

I was having a lot of trouble with interrupted sleep - I would drop right off at bedtime, exhausted, then wake up about three or four hours later and that was it for me. This was exacerbated when I started taking Prozac, even though I'm on a fairly low dose of 20mg daily. My doc prescribed Trazodone, at 50mg in a splittable tablet, and I have been sleeping the whole night through ever since. (Something I haven't done since my late teens.) Most of the time I take a half, unless I'm feeling unusually tense at bedtime, when I may take a whole one. Since the very first day, I have felt completely rested, and not as irritable. I can't say if feeling more relaxed is a side effect of the Traz, or if it's simply because I'm not perpetually frazzled from sleep deprivation. But it's nice, and I'm sure my kids would agree. I am a little groggier in the morning, but nothing that my usual black tea can't clear away, and I have not had any headaches at all.
It looks like the people who have had problems stopping have generally tried stopping cold-turkey. I'm not sure why they would feel that's the best way to go.

I've had insomnia for over 2 yrs. since my daughter was born. I'm on Lexapro for anxiety/depression. I was taking Ambien to sleep but want to wean off of it and try to sleep w/o meds. My doc recommended Trazodone for sleep temporarily to get off Ambien. I tried it for the first time last night (100 mg) and didn't sleep very well and had a wicked headache all night and this morning. Also felt very groggy. I'm debating whether or not to try again and lower the dosage to 1/2 tab or just go back to the Ambien. I don't want to rely on meds to sleep for the rest of my life, but I need the sleep to take care of my 2 yr old.

I have been having trouble sleeping due to a back injury and my doctor just prescribed trazodone to help with the lack of sleep. I didn't know until I filled the scrip that it was an antidepressant.
I don't understand why this type of drug would be prescribed for someone who didn't suffer from depression. I am scared to take it because one of the side effects is "increased suicidal thought and actions". I don't really want to become suicidal just to get a few hours of sleep.

I tried Trazadone briefly as once I took it-I think even half-I was literally a zombie. Look into Seroquel. It was my miracle drug to get me to sleep. Now I don't need anything. Good luck!

I've just been prescribed Trazodone for sleep but haven't started it yet so I don't know about it's effects. But, I took Remeron (mirtazapine) for sleep and it worked great. I also didn't have any problem stopping it. The only reason I stopped was that I couldn't stop eating.

I haven't had a good night sleep in 10 years since my father past away and became a caregiver to my mother. I would go to bed at a normal time but would wake about 1 a.m. where I would lay there with racing thoughts until morning. I tried over the counter, health food store and P.M. aspirin for a good night sleep but nothing worked. My doctor put me on Resoril, which helped for awhile, but soon I'd be waking again in the early morning. Then I tried TRAZODONE, I had a hard time falling asleep with it, but once I did I'd sleep till morning.. The only problem, I'd wake up as a zombie and would have to go to work. I realized it was time to get off of TRAZODONE when I couldn't make my hour drive home from work because I'd become very sleepy. I'd have to pull over and get out of the car to wake up. The meds threw my whole body out of whack so I quit. For the next 3 years, I continued to suffered with poor sleep until a friend told me about AMBIEN. What a life saver....I'd take my pill., fall asleep and wake up refresh, not tired at all. The generic is ZOLPIDEM, which was half the cost of AMBIEN. Not having prescription coverage, I have cut my pills in half and they work just as well. I don't know if there will be any withdraw affects if I ever decide I want to go sleepless again.

Seems to be the only thing that helps me sleep if I get out of a normal sleep pattern. I usually taper off and need lower and lower dosages to fall asleep - then don't need to take it at all - seems to have taught my brain to sleep again -- works great for me. Wouldn't recommend going off of it cold turkey -- you need to taper down.

I have taken trazadone for 15 years. I started years ago when I started on prozac and couldn't sleep at all. Over the past 15 years I've taken several different doses - anywhere from 12.5mg to 150mg depending on what other medications I've been on for depression, stress, anxiety, etc. When I had just had my baby, I didn't take it at all b/c I was desperate to get any sleep I could. Anyway, I'm currently on 75mg. I have absolutely no complaints about this drug and have never had any problems with it or the various doses. I really feel that it mimics real sleep - most of the time I sleep fine but every once in awhile I have a sleepless night like everyone else does. Anyway, I've found it be safe and effective for the past 15 years at all different doses.

anyone taking trazodone for help with sleep?
