are crabs serious?

What does it mean when one has crabs? Is it contagious disease? I’ve heard that my friends were talking about a boy that got crabs and it seemed that was something bad and uncomfortable. I’m 16 years old boy. I’d like to hear something about crabs and how serious this disorder may be. Thanks.

Crabs are type of parasite infection, it is sexually transmitted disease. Crabs are lice in fact, that are found in pubic hair. They are microorganisms that need to live on a host, which is what parasitic way of life means. Itching is common symptom of crabs, and in pubic hair, nits and crawling lice can be seen. This infection should be treated with lice killing shampoo that can be bought without prescription.
