My grandmother has started taking Aricep and I am very worried about her. I am hoping she will get some relief and benefits from it and am so afraid for her. She has already started showing the early signs like slowed speech, forgetfulness, not being able to choose words and I was wondering if you could tell me what we could expect from the drug. We have a family history of the disease. Thank you so much

Well, although Aricept is supposed to bring some relief and improve these early symptoms, it is not supposed to prevent the disease from progressing. You need to make sure that she is taking the drug regularly, if drug is stopped, its effects will stop soon after. Improvement in symptoms from the drug is not supposed to be noticeable within the first three weeks. After that, the drug should start working but I guess this is individual.
