Reiki Healing-Introduction and Health Benefits

 

People who practice or teach Reiki are saying that it represents a form of spiritual healing and spiritual practice proposed for the treatment of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual diseases. How this ancient technique was invented? Well, it is important to point out that one man- Mikao Usui developed Reiki in early 20th century Japan. In that period he claimed that he has received some kind of ability characterized by 'healing without energy depletion' after three weeks of fasting and meditating on Mount Kurama. Since then, it has become extremely popular and some statistical data are saying that in 2002 there were over one million U.S. adults who had experienced Reiki treatments. But there is one big problem with all this! Modern medicine doesn't approve this form of healing because there is considerable controversy regarding the legitimacy of reiki, because it isn’t scientifically proven! Not only that, some studies have shown that the effect of Reiki is similar to that of a placebo. That’s why- in most of the scientific 

 

Like we have already mentioned, one Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui claimed to have discovered Reiki after long meditation, fasting, and prayer on some holly mountain! He was saying that he had gained the knowledge and spiritual power to apply and attune others to what he called Reiki. What’s also interesting- he said that he had the ability to enable people to enhance their access to the energy through certain initiations. He wasn’t new in that “business” because, before this “achievement”, he also studied traditional Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, Qigong, and Yoga. If we talk about the beginnings of the Reiki practice we should also know that the author, Usui, was also an admirer of the literary works of Emperor Meiji. This is important because Mikao later used some of the Meiji Emperor's works to make a set of ethical principles.

Mikao Usui trained several “students” of his own which later continued to train other people this ancient discipline!  
Because, in the beginning, it was pretty complicate technique, one of his students - Doctor Chujiro Hayashi, have modified a simpler set of Reiki techniques.  

It is also important to point out that Hayashi also trained Mrs. Hawayo Takata, who brought Reiki to the USA.  This woman claimed that she had been appointed Grandmaster of Reiki through the lineage of Mr. Chujiro Hayashi, and that there were no surviving teachers of Reiki to be found in Japan after World War II.  

There are essentially two broad groups, or schools:

What is the main difference between these two schools? Well, the first group teaches and practice Reiki strictly as it was taught from Usui's time until Takata's time.  The fact is also that the second school vary greatly in their practices and methods. Some are based on IIris Ishikuro, which fundamentally adhere and some are based on the traditional Reiki practice but also practice Takata's practice of charging $10,000 for attunement to Reiki "Master level" .

Every person that’s planning to practice the Reiki should know that, according to Usui - the body is more than just a collection of functioning parts. This is because everything, as well as the body and its organs, generates a frequency and causes a special kind of its own energy field which is continually changing. The explanation is simple- If our life force is low or blocked; we are more likely to get sick. When opposite condition is present- we can maintain our health and well being.

Every patient should know that, when we talk about the simplest form using Reiki, it is simply based on the practitioner placing their hands on the recipient with the intent of bringing healing, and willing for Reiki energy to flow. Of course, there is a set of hand positions which give good coverage over the recipient’s entire body.

Well, according to them- to the world of spirit there is no such thing as time or space. One expert wrote “The world we see around us is only a small fragment or slice of all which exists. There is more in existence than what our bodies can detect in this way (though with some training and practice one can extend the range of what our consciousness can perceive). “

That’s how- because according to them - there is no time and space to limit spirit, Reiki can operate without regard to limitations of space (at least). How it is being done? Well, the main thing that should be kept in mind when doing remote healings the recipient is to be objectified somehow, and the symbol drawn in the vicinity of the object representing the recipient. To simplify this a bit- by objectified these reiki experts mean that it is easier for the conscious mind to deal with objects than abstract things.  

According to the Reiki theory, the person gets sick when the flow of the "Life Force Energy" is disrupted, weakened or blocked. How this occurs? Well, it’s easy! Imbalances can be caused from many situations occurring in our lives, such as: emotional or physical trauma, injury, negative thoughts and feelings, including fear, worry, doubt, anger, anxiety, and many others…

 

 

It is extremely important to point out that most of the doctors and academics have expressed concern when patients with serious diseases choose Reiki as a means of treatment instead of trained doctors.  These are mostly cancer patients! These experts claim that it is nothing more but exploiting the fear and hope of people with serious illnesses. According to them, these Reiki experts for money are offering only a placebo effect. Not only are them against this ancient practice! It is also important to mention that also Roman Catholic priests have also denounced Reiki as "opening the door to evil and occult forces which have later side effects".

 

Not only that these medical experts are against this ancient practice but also, there have also some extremely expressed points of controversy between different groups, teachers and practitioners. How come? Well, these controversies exist on topics such as the nature of the Reiki energy itself, fees charged for courses and treatments, training methods, secrecy of symbols and attunement methods.

 

 The "Reiki Grandmaster"

What exactly is the “Reiki Grandmaster” and how to get to this title? Well, all people should know that there are many conservative schools which are based around claims of Hawayo Takata's many student teachers competing as the true "Grandmaster" of Reiki or teaching exactly as Takata herself taught.  It is also important to point out that one man called Phyllis Furumoto which was supposedly a granddaughter of Takata, was claiming this title around the same time that it was found that historically no such title ever existed once the Japanese schools were discovered by Western Reiki schools.  This is also a proof that this title has no significant meaning or purpose!
