Detoxification (or detox) is the removal of potentially toxic substances from the body. The term is frequently used to refer to treatment of problems related to drugs or alcohol.
When applied to food, it refers to diets, herbs, and other methods of removing environmental and dietary toxins from the body for general health. The main idea is to eat pure foods that will aid the function of the lymph, kidneys, and liver.

Generally most detox diets contain organic foods and drinks, whole unprocessed foods, high mix of vegetables and fruits, extra-virgin oil, herbal teas, 2 liters of water per day, and certain herbs to aid the detoxifying process. These diets mostly avoid alcohol, caffeine, tobacco, and drugs, processed and refined foods and certain supplements (with additives). 
Thus a detox diet is typically very low in calories and weight loss is almost guaranteed. It is important to remember that it the weight loss is due to calorie-reduction rather than any detox effects. Below is a sample one-week detox diet plan to support detoxification and weight loss. 

Recipe for detox diet soup

In this detox diet, you may eat as much of the soup as you like: 

Ingredients for a detox soup, which also improves burning off fat: 

•    500 ml canned tomato (pellati)
•    1. 5 l water
•    2 packets of instant soup
•    2 big paprikas (green, red or yellow)
•    6 big onions
•    1 head cabbage (cca 1kg)
•    0.5 kg celery

Procedure:


Chop vegetables into medium-sized pieces, put vegetables in water and cook on high flame for 10 minutes. Then cook for another 10 minutes (or until the vegetables are soft) on low flame. Thereafter, add salt, pepper, soya sauce or other spices of your choice.
 
You may eat the soup whenever you feel starved; the interesting point is that more the soup you eat, the more weight you lose.
Points to remember

•    This detox diet can cause different reactions in different people. In a few days, you may notice difference in your digestion. If diarrhea follows this type of diet, then you should prefer to eat barley or other oats with milk, or add one or two cups of bran to your soup.

•    Drink water and herbal teas (without sugar) when thirsty but abstain from soft drinks and carbonated beverages. There is another special rule about this detox diet to not drink alcoholic beverages at all. This diet does not allow drinking alcohol at any time because fat is being removed from your organism. It is ideal to stop this diet for at least 24 hours in case you plan to drink alcohol.

•    On rigorously following this diet, you will clean your organism of all toxins and shall feel much healthier.

•    Although coffee is not completely prohibited, yet you shall feel the lessening of the need for caffeine. Still if you feel the urge for coffee, you should drink it without milk and sugar.

•    For drinking, water, juice without sugar, tea without sugar (especially green tea) and milk without fat are recommeded.

•    The items that are completely forbidden include bread, alcohol, sugar, baked foods and carbonated and soft beverages.

•    Workout for 30 minutes every day.

•    Lastly, it is advisable to consult your doctor prior to starting this detox plan.

One week detox diet plan

You always start this diet with the first day on the menu.

1st day 

Eat only fruit and soup. You can eat any fruit except for bananas. Bananas should not be eaten because they are rich source of calories and carbohydrates and are good substance for sweets. Best choice fruits are watermelon and melon, because they contain a high percentage of water. 
For drinking, you can use tea without sugar or water.

2nd day

All sorts of fresh or conserved vegetables and soup can be consumed. Try to eat more of green vegetables such as lettuce or spinach. You can relish a big grilled unpeeled potato with butter or cream for dinner. Take up to 2-3 soup spoons of cream or butter; don’t forget that you are on a diet. Avoid corn, bean and pea. Don’t eat fruit on this day.

3rd day

Eat as much of soup, fruits and vegetables as you like. Avoid bananas in fruit and corn, bean and pea in vegetables.

4th day 

Eat soup, bananas and milk without fat. You can eat up to three bananas and drink as much water as you feel like. Bananas are rich source of calories and carbohydrates, the same is with milk. On the 4th day, your body shall need potassium, carbohydrates, calcium and proteins in order to decrease the need for sweets. While consuming bananas, you will observe that your body shall begin to vibrate and once you finish eating them, you shall feel much brighter and optimistic.

5th day

Eat soup, beef and tomato. You can eat cca 200 g beef and up to 6 tomatoes. Quickly grilled (without fat) beef steak or cooked beef is recommended. Eat soup at least once on this day. Drink at least 2 l of water to decrease the citron-acid levels in your organism.

Beef can be replaced with grilled chicken breasts (without skin or fat) or grilled fish. But it is important to eat beef at least once during this diet.

6th day

Eat soup, beef and vegetables. You can eat 2-3 steaks and it is best to eat green vegetables such as salads and spinach. Eat soup at least once on this day.

7th day

Eat soup, unpolished rice and vegetables, but without fat. You can drink fruit juice without sugar and water in unlimited amounts.


Following this diet plan on a strict basis can help you loose up to 8 pounds, but be informed that it is mostly water and some of the weight will probably return on stopping this diet. This detox diet can be repeated for 3 weeks, but you must consult the doctor before doing so. Also, if you loose more than 8 pounds per week, it is wise to consult the doctor and stop this plan for at least 2 days.

Always remember that the detox diet is primarily aimed to detoxicate body and secondarily to loose weight.
