Posted: 12/19/07 - 17:30 Post subject: Weird Pains after Gallbladder removal |
|
|
| I had my gallbladder removed 24th October 2007. Within the first 4 days of having it removed I got extreme lower back pain. I thought it was my bowels, I couldnt sit comfortably, it was awful. I took voltaren to give me a few days relief from it. Eventually i just laid in bed and massaged my lower back all across my lower spine. It went! I think it may have been from the gas that they pumped my stomach up with. I think it was trapped in some weird spot around my lower back because it has not returned! Since the operation, I have had air stuck in a few weird places too. |

| Hi everyone, wow all of these people suffering after having their gb out or needing to have it out!! Amazing!!!!! Mine was removed in 1993, 15 years ago and I have pain now that is far severe than I ever had when I had my gb out!! After the surgery nothing has been the same! I have the same back pain you describe along with countless other symptoms that have crept up over the years because of this surgery. And to the person (guest) who said if you are nice in the hospital you will get sent home, and stay until they find something or get a clear diagnosis, I totally agree but it doesn't always happen, they think your pain or symptoms aren't severe enough to keep you or the few tests they perform come out negative, so see ya bye, go home now, and continue suffering at home. We tried the trying to stay in the ER until they found something concrete with my hubby telling the one doc: "take her upstairs, cut her open and find out why she is in so much pain". He was told that just wasn't possible, I had the pain and it was obvious to the doctor that I was in pain but the doc told my hubby that sometimes we have pain but the cause was unclear, so I received 2 shots of demerol within 20 minutes of each other and was discharged before it even started to kick in. Let me tell you, that is an experience I will never forget!! I couldn't move, walk, talk, breathe, but, I was being discharged, and when I got home I told my hubby I thought I was going to die over and over because I was forgetting to breathe, but he said I was breathing, I had hours of hallucinations, my hubby called the ER to complain and they said "we didn't do that to her" but call us if the symptoms persist. Go figure!!! Anyway I wish I could tell you things will get better but I can't! Some of you may never have any more problems and that is just wonderful, but some I fear will continue to be plagued with pain and problems! Good luck to everyone and take care!! Hopefully the answers we seek are or will be out there somewhere!!! |

I just had surgery 1/4/08. Didn't have pain before surgery, but was filled with gall stones. I finally caved and had a lap. Did well till this week. Then the stomach cramps, spasms from mid front to back on right side. Usually only last 15-30 minutes. But I can't lay on my favorite right side to sleep anymore.
In fact I am sitting in the recliner with my laptop because it is more comfortable here than in bed.
I started on protein drink today, will do this for a few days to get my system cleaned out and then see what happens.
I am thankful to have found these posts, because at least I know what I am feeling is more normal than I thought.
Sorry we are all in this mess

| I am feeling like I', going crazy with having pain after gb removal on 1/1/08. Doctors have done CT hytoscam etc and finding nothing but I am in so much pain I am unable to work still, can't sit long in a chair, lay flat, I have to be reclined 45 degrees to have any tolerable position. How is it that so many of us are having the same problems and yet the doctors continue to disbelieve and make me feel like I'm crazy or milking this. I'm off pain meds, tried taking advil etc, but it does nothing, lots of ice packs are the only thing that help alittle. Thank you all for not making me feel so alone! Hopefully someone in here finds a doctor to find out what is going on. I can't imagine having to live in this much pain forever! |

| Hi, been reading these comments for months as my wife been going through what most of you describe. had gall bladder out 18+ months ago and was left with blood clot ( or so they thought ) had 6 months of blood thinner as a precaution. Anyway she been having crippling pain starting with a twinge then building up to horrific pain as before the gb removal on and off for 18 months mainly focused under the lower rib cage or breastbone she describes it as a weight pushing down on her crushing her rib cage. even with taking the strong pain killer prescribed the pain stays and the only way to get rid of it is to sit in bed still at 45 deg let the pain killers and some sleep take effect. we have been and out of hospital numerous times been given morphine for the pain when the pain killers arent enough and it eases and we leave after 5-6 hours. this last time round it was most severe we had ever known the pain just would not go even with morphine it only took the edge off. she was admitted to hospital for tests and one day she was turning yellow and the xray showed an inflamed liver. the doctor asked for a camera down the throat and discovered a stone still lodged in the bile duct with some sludge. it was all removed during the camera keyhole procedure and so far she feels a new person. not saying this is the answer but the gb removal by keyhoel obviously wasnt 100% accurate for us. feel for you all and just thought i would share what we think has sorted the problem out. dont take no for an answer get scans in the area of the gall bladder to check there are no remaining problems. |

| I had gall bladder surgery 2 years ago and I had back pain. The test showed nothing. My doctor told me it was from my fibromyligia I went to my chiropractor and I felt better in about 3 months. |

| I too have had my gallbladder out 1 1/2 years ago and I experiencing the exact pain that you everyone on this site is describing. My family doctor is now sending me to a GI specialist. Does anyone know the best way to get the doctors to listen to my problem. They seem to ignore what I tell them. I tell them that I get the pains right after eating and they are similar to the ones I had prior to my surgery. The back pain is horrible. All my tests with my family doctor have come back negative expect that my ultrasound indicated that I had a lot of gas in my stomach cavity. I am so frustrated with this whole process. Everyone thinks you are nuts!! I too am glad I found this site. |

Hi
I had my GB removed about 7 years ago. After the operation i was wheeled back into hospital after 7 days again. I was throwing up violently and couldnt keep anything down. Once admitted they picked up that i had developed jaundice and was yellow and the throwing up continuted. They did a scan and it appeared that one of the stones from my gallbladder had also got stuck in the bile duct. But the pain was extremely unbearable i lie awake at night counting the hours until i could get my next pain injection. After that i felt okay for another week and then again i experienced pain and vomiting and was rushed back again, this time i had developed kidney stones and the stone was apparently so big that after i had received laser treatment my back was bruised black and purple because they had lasered my back so intensely.....i couldnt understand where such a big stone would have been hiding all the time. Nevertheless with all that said i have ever since then experienced the odd pain that i experienced with the gall bladder and jaundice every month or so and never did anything. Recently i have been experiencing it more often and exactly in the lower right hand side just under my rib cage back and its an internal pain as such. Just reading all these posts makes me think that having the gall bladder removed comes with its own set of complications which no one tells you about....has anyone out there received a successfull treatment for the after pains or should we keep searching..
| Guest wrote: | Hi, I hope this information offers hope to some of the ladies suffering extreme pain. Around 6 months ago my wife (46yrs old) started to have abdominal pain. She was given antacid tabs etc, nothing helped. The pain got worse and more frequent and was now accompanied by severe vomiting which usually came after the pain had built to almost unbearable levels. She ultimately had her gall bladder removed as the ultasound scan revealed disease of the gall bladder. Stones basically.
1 operation later and we find ourselves in the middle of a nightmare. Same pain as before, but more frequent and worse. She cried it was so bad. The vomiting was violent.
I researched the net and was convinced she had sphincter oddi syndrome.
She was passed from doctor to doctor with no joy. After 1 particularly bad attack, and by now she was finding it difficult to breathe during an attack, I took her to A&E and refused to leave until they admitted her and diagnosed the problem.
1 MRI scan later they discovered some loose stones had made their way into the bile duct and become trapped. She will have them removed next week and we assume all will be well after that.
I'll keep you posted.
Please, if you are suffering extreme pain as my wife was, insist they keep you in hospital and give you every possible blood test and scan available. Be rude if you have to. The nicer you are, I find they assume it can't be that bad and dismiss you easily.
You are entitled to a cure. It's your right, not a privilege.
I truly hope this helps a little. If you are suffering...there is a reason and there is a cure. Insist they find both. | |

My surgery was also the worst i have ever experienced (unfortunately i've been unlucky to have had a few) I to don't know what to do about it! I have not been to see anyone as i feel like a fool describing gall bladder pain when it has been removed! |
i had mine removed 6 years ago i have pain in my back and shoulder and i also have pain where my gallbladder was and me to my operation was supposed to be in and out the same day, mine took 4 days, they had to go down my throat and fined the stones that they dropped when they botched my operation up. |

| I just had my gall bladder removed two weeks ago. I first had an ERCP to remove several stones then they took the gall bladder out the same week. After being sent home from the hospital I went right back in two days later with the same pain that led to the surgery in the first place. I was worried that there was a problem with my liver. While in the hospital they did a CT scan and blood tests. the CT showed nothing but the blood tests confirmed that I had a problem with my liver enzymes so they went back in and did another ERCP. The second ERCP revealed that there were several more gall stones that were either missed during the first ERCP or were dumped from the gall bladder during surgery. These stones were removed and my common bile duct was enlarged to allow for passage of any additional gall stones that may have been left behind. Since the second ERCP I have been feeling much better. I have some soreness in the right side of my back and right abdomen but I am feeling much better than before. I asume the lingering soreness will go away as my body heals from the surgeries. Maybe some of you are experiencing pain from stones that were left behind. It's worth talking to your doctor about. |
