Was wondering if anyone else has had problems with the drug Provera. (Not depo provera)

I took 5 days worth of aseven day treatment. Had to stop because my legs were swelling. A day after my last pill the side effects started. I began to have hot flashes and palpatations. Sometimes my heart just beats hard and sometimes it races, too. Well,it has been almost two weeks since my last pill and I am still suffering. The problem is worse at night for some reason?? anyway,I've been to the er 2x,I've gone to my general practitioner and I've even called my cardiologist. Of course my heart isn't racing when i visit the er and my doc. aggres that it was probably the Provera that set my heart off,but he wants me to wait it out about two weeks to see if it will flush out of my system. In the mean time he has me taking Xanax to calm me down enough so i can sleep. My cardiologist prescribed a beta blocker..but I am hesitant to take it..I have a heart block and I'm nervous that this stuff will make my heart rate too slow.

Any suggestions or comments?? Has anyone else suffered the same way??
Need to know I'm not the only one who has experienced these side effects!!

yes, I have! And I been searching on here to see if any other woman has experienced problems with provera as well, and you've made me feel better already to know Im not the only one. The doctors seemed to think I was crazy, apparently I am not. I've heard Provera was given to jump start a period. Well, my problem is Ive had my period for 4 months. So they gave me provera, and told me it would stop the bleeding. I took it as perscribed, my last pill was 5 days ago, and now Im bleeding heavier then ever, worst pain I've ever been in, I have very rapid heart beat, My legs are swollen and feel like jello, and yes I also cant sleep at night. And its been like this since I started the provera. I havent been able to get any answers, but I do know taking the provera was a big mistake, it has put a stop to my life, I havent been back to work in 2 weeks. I hope you were able to recover from it, and I also hope I can too, and soon. Thanks for your comment, its truely made me feel not so alone

Victoria,

My doctor prescribed Provera 10 mg today. I am supposed to take it for 7 days. For me, it's to stop heavy periods. This is the only month I will take it. After this month, I'm supposed to take a natural form of progesterone.

How did you ever come out with your side effects?

Thanks.
