Hello! I was prescribed Biaxin to treat inflammation of the tonsils. I have been on it for 3 days and haven’t experienced anything weird but my friend told me that she read that Biaxin was associated with increased death rate and that she refused to give it to her child when diagnosed with pneumonia. She asked from the doctor another drug. Should I also stop the drug?

I don’t think you should stop the drug. These reports are associated with high doses of Biaxin, doses over 1000mg per day in patients with heart disease. The report came from a study that lasted for one year, so you are in no danger if you don’t have heart problems. If you do, you should report them to your doctor now. I am sure your doctor knows what he’s doing and you should work closely with him. In case you develop any side effects, talk to your doctor immediately.
