I had major foot surgery 2 weeks ago, I have had trouble with one of my toes turning black. My Dr. is very concerned, but so far it's a waiting game. The pain is still pretty bad too. Any body have any suggestions?

hi joe i poster a comment yesterday and i wanna know if thie procedure was very painful and u tell me how the first and couple of days after that were . how many hammertoes did u have on each foot andhow long was your recovery. how long did it take to get back into a regular shoe and did u have severe bunions aor mild. slao how old were u when u got this done if u dont mind im 22 yeard old and i wnna know if im to young to get this dione. i hear the younger u are th ebetter it it. also getting both feet done can be less painful. was hard to walk around did u have crutches and where did u get this done at cauase i am also form ny and its hard finding a doctor im comfortable with and has alot of experience in this feild. also was getting bot feet done at the same time better than having one at a time cause i hear it a long recovery and its stressful to go through the procedure agin is that why u did both or doctor said to get both and were u happy with the results if u can email me *****i would appreciate it thank u

| I had bilateral bunion surgery on both feet at the same time. The cut a notch in the big toe bone, put it in the correct place then screwed it in place. My Dr prefers screws to pins since they don't need to be removed unless you have a problem with them wich is not usually the case. Also reduced the knuckle that stuck out the side, had to shorten the outer tendon and the 2 upper tendons. I should be able to return to my warehouse job in 8 weeks. |

I has bunion surgery on both feet. The first one in Mar 05 went very well. I was running, with slight pain, in about 2 1/2 months. Today there is no pain. I had the other surgery in Nov 06 and I'm still experiencing discomfort. With this foot the Dr placed a pin in my foot. I'm not a Dr but the foot w/o the pin I have no pain. The one with it, I feel discomfort.
I went back to the Dr. She says sometimes it can take a year to heal. She suggested that I buy new running shoes. I found this really dishearting because it's not realistic to buy all new shoes.

I had the surgery on my right foot on July 5, 2007 and have had no pain. It's normal for the foot to stay numb for a few days. I had my bunion removed and my next 2 toes shortened to correct hammertoes. I just had my pins taken out of my toes yesterday and have on tennis shoes today! I'm having my left foot done on September 27th and do not dread it at all. My surgery was at 6:30 in the am and my doctor told me to take a pain pill at 1:30 p.m. and I never took another thing for pain.
I would suggest if anyone has pain to call the doctor because something has gone wrong.
Happy with my surgery! |

| I am one week post op today! Bunions removed from both sides of my left foot. Two screws on small toe side and one pin on big toe side. I personally used one pain pill every 4 hours. I was on the pain meds 5 days, which my dr. thought was pretty good. Without the meds in time, my foot felt like it was in a vice grip. If I took them right at 4 hours, it really was not that uncomfortable. Keep your foot up, ice around the ankle, and stay ahead of the pain with your meds. Crutches for 3 weeks and limited walking for 6 weeks after that. Incisions were both on the top of my foot. |
