Ok, this term is consisted of few specific words; in short it is related to mental disorder. Rtyhmic relates to changing episodes (for example, depression, mania, depression, mania etc)
First, bipolar. Is a mood disorder that is typically characterized by fluctuations between manic and depressive states, relating to mood instability. Bipolar disorder is categorized in few groups, where each type varies with length and intensity of specific stage.
Scientists claim that the reason for bipolarity is unbalance in biochemical function of brain and hormones, others oppose that. It is very interesting to know that many creative people, such as artists, poets … are bipolar and that if bipolarity is uncontrolled (and if controlled) can very easy affect families, friendships and even lives (15 % of bipolar people commit suicide).
It is also important to notice that bipolar disorder does not just consists of ups and downs, there is really more to it. For example this ups and downs are far more extreme than with most of people. For example bipolar person would be down or up for some event in their lives (just like normal person), the difference is that bipolar person would stay for example down and be stuck and their mood may intensify until it becomes full-blown mania or a clinical depression at that point their mood could be "stuck" until it cycles again. Some people have on the other hand very quick shifting form one stage to another, others are in so called mixed stages.
Ok, let me explain mania: intense productivity, hyper activity, insomnia, hyper imagination, euphoria, hyper sexuality… in this stage bipolar patients act differently, some have impulsive and destructive behavior, which they later regret, some become paranoid, some hear voices, some are distressed, some use this behavior for excuse not to take medication…
Depression is somehow opposite to mania and it is characterized as profound sadness and anxiety, slowness to conceive ideas and move, even sleep disruptions, suicidal thoughts ….
In short, bipolar disorder is very close to schizophrenia, it is a life long condition, which requires long term treatment.
