black vaginal discharge

i was supposed to get my period this weekend, i traveled to a different country when i was supposed to have it, and instead i had, first, a brown vaginal discharge with some little blood, and now it turned black.... what can this be???/ please help!!!!!

Hi! Are you taking birth control pills maybe? I started taking bc pills on my own without consulting a gynecologist and about 6 months after I started experiencing black discharge. I got scared just like you did now and my doc said that I should have talked to her about taking bc pills first because she would have run some tests on my liver to see if it were ok for me to use the pills. It happens that liver cannot detoxify progestin and uterus and cervix get overloaded by this artificial progesterone. Excessive progesterone causes spotting or light bleeding, which is slow and stays longer in the vagina where it oxidizes and turns black.

Even if you are not using bc pills, it is possible that there was a change in estrogen and progesterone production that resulted in the same situation.

However, I would check it to make sure there isn’t an infection present.
