My sister’s baby is going to have the Blalock–Taussig surgery. The baby has been born with congenital heart defect which reduces the amount of oxygen in her body. I would like to know more about the procedure. How they are going to make that shunt? Please I am really worried!

The Blalock–Taussig procedure, also known as the “blue baby operation,” is a surgery in which a shunt is created from the aorta to the pulmonary artery. The surgery is performed on infants and young children who are born with a congenital heart defect.
However, this procedure is performed as a temporary solution. It will improve the immediate signs and symptoms of the underlying heart defect, but not correct it. Other surgeries are usually necessary in the future.
