bleeding after MA pill - mid-cycle or period? when do i take B-C pill?

The condom spilt for the second time in two months so i took the morning after pill 12 hrs after intercourse and thought i would just have to wait 3 weeks for my next period (this is what happened the first time i took MA pill). I also decided to go on Birth control pill and was told to take it for first time on first day of next period.
However, i started bleeding two weeks before i was due (1 week after taking M-A pill). The bleeding was lighter than normal. I waited for about 24 hours, thinking that it could be the mid-cycle bleed that's often related to M-A pill but then took the BC pill anyway when the bleeding continued. The bleeding (which continued to be light) then stopped (gradually) after taking the B-C pill for 3 days. Was that a period or was it a mid-cycle bleed? and if it was a mid-cycle bleed am i protected by the BC pill or have i messed it all up by taking it????
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!
