bleeding after pap smear during pregnancy

I am 8 weeks pregnant and was to my ob dr on tues and had a pap smear and internal exam, it is now sat and i am having bleeding with small clots and menstrual feeling cramps, is this normal

The same thing happened to my wife and when we went to the ER they found no fetal pole however shes 5.5 wks pregnant.
