I have been expereincing occasional bleeding during intercourse. It has happened slightly off and on for a few years, but only on occasion (which is why I am doubting it is this slight infection I have read about here elsewhere) and usually then nothing much.

For some reason I've always had the impression is has something to do with my general menstrual irregularities, the pill I am on to normalize it(tried changing types already to no avail, though I always require a very light dose pill as the stronger ones make me 'crazy') or perhaps slight normal tearing when I haven't been having sex regularly. (It is perhaps helpful to note that my gynos have diagnosed irregularity as being due to some hormone levels being out of sync. This seems useful because of some suggestion I've read about progesterone, deprovera [which I am not on] or other hormone involments in this sort of thing?)

However, I am now with a new boyfriend and for these first few encounters so far there is quite a bit of blood each time...definately cannot be due to tearing. Enough to be a bit scary. There is no pain and there is sufficient lubrication. My pap smears have all been normal and concurrent routine testings have all been normal...any ideas?

Well, there are two uterine conditions pap smear can’t detect and that are often causes of the bleeding during or after sex.

These are not conditions actually but benign growths in the uterine called polyps and fibroids. Both of the growths can be removed. However, the polyps don’t recur but new ones may appear after removal but fibroids often reappear after removal, so it may be a struggle with them.
If fibroid tumors don’t cause any trouble, they don’t need to be removed but a woman could wait for the menopause when they will shrink on their own.

More than often uterine polyps cause all sorts of bleedings, heavy periods, spotting between periods and bleeding after sex.

Can you remember what kind of hormonal disorder you had and which of the hormones you lack?

If you have been diagnosed with polysistic ovariaon syndrome, then you may experience bleeding as well.

Also, women who develop cysts on their ovaries may bleed after sex but they usually have pains during periods and ovulation and these cysts can interfere with menstrual cycles and make your periods irregular.

just to follow-up here for others viewing....

the bleeding stopped after a few times. other council suggested it was because i have light/irregular periods that it was the pressure of intercourse on the muscles that was pushing out bllod that was not fully expelled either during my last period (probably) or the upcoming one. while i've had no confirmation of this being the case, symptoms point to this being the case. Simply aother alternative for others having the same experince to consider...

last time i had sex i bled quite a bit, however in the same night i had sex again did not bleed at all? is this normal? can the pill i am using cause me to bleed after sex sometimes? i was told about 2 months ago that i had a slight wound which needed healing and that would take 2 weeks to heal and i shouldnt bleed. so this must have healed now, but i had sex after two months and bled quite a bit but didnt bleed the second time. I am confused and think it could be the pill which i am using? could this be right?

Hi guys, I have too been bleeding during sex and also after for a day or so(just little brownish discharge). I have had problems with having thrush all the time in the past year...It was terrible, sex painful as hell. Then I got of the pill which I have been on for 3 years...2 weeks later thrush was gone...I had normal sex for few months...Then I started to bleed during sex and it is happening nearly everytime. I dont know what to do it is frightening. What is wrong with me? I have also had an abortion 5 years ago...has this got to do with my bleeding? but I havent had this problem till now...I had pap test done it was all good. Can anyone offer an advice to what is happening top me...
P.S. I am terrified of going to the doctor because I dont want to know if anything bad is happening to me. I am only 25 and don't deserve to go through som like this

Abortions do have long-term side effects that abortion clinics don't like to tell you about. Don't risk anything, I'd say go to the doctor.

I have been experiencing a similar problem. It's something that is definately sending the guys running.
It's been occurring to me for over six months now, and it's not getting any better. My GP performed an examination and found that my cervix was covered in small capillaries that break when touched, which is most likely the cause of the bleeding during sex. My tests have all been clear also, and I think the most likely cause of this problem is the contraceptive pill. It alters the environment in the vagina so much that it causes all of these other side effects. I'm trying to find a good gynaecologist who can find exactly what is going on. I suggest that everyone experiencing this problem should persist until they find an answer. It's something that no woman should have to face.

Helloall, I myself have been bleeding during sex and been having periods all of the time. Well I have been going to the gyno and had blood work , paps and even biopsys done. All come back normal so far... Had another biopsy done today have to wait a week for that result. The doctor is planning on doing a uterine ablasion on me and says that will solve all my problems that while I am having sex,it is actually when I have an orgasm that is when I tend to bleed like a stuck pig. Its the muscles contracting that causes this bleeding . So if anyone is having this problem and wants to be able to truly enjoy their orgasm I recommend going to the gyno and not to be embarrased because she said believe it or not they hear this kind of thing a lot. Hope I was able to help someone Very Happy

I bleed during sex almost ALL the time for about a year almost year and a half now.. I finally visited a gynecologist who informed me that it was my hormones..He prescribed a stronger dose of birthcontrol pills which helped for about a month then I started bleeding again. I have not gone back because of fear..he informed me that if the birthcontrol pill did not work that I would need a D&C which is a certain procedure that cleans out the cervix and requires anesthetics to put you to sleep. I am completely frustrated and confused. I am only 26 and my sex life has been completely ruined for me and my boyfriend. I know he is frustrated and I just keep asking myself how long he will stick in there with me. I feel guilty because this should not be happening to me or him for the matter. I do not deserve this...nobody does I am too young.
