| Help! I am 40 and female. Two weeks ago, I had a pretty nasty stomach virus (which everyone in my family had). A week later, I was throwing up again--I think I had another stomach virus (but no one else got it this time). Ever since the second one, I have been really bloated and constipated. What can be causing this? I am really scared that something is seriously wrong. |

You had typical stomach flu (gastroenteritis) with the usual symptoms, such as vomiting and I believe you had the abdominal cramps, diarrhea, fever and a logical consequence of such conditions- weight loss.
We all know that stomach flues usually go away without any medical treatments after day or two, and they seldom come back so I think what is now happening to you might be the consequence of the stomach flu you had.
Constipation have many symptoms which may be the sensation of needing to have a bowl movement and then, when in the bathroom you realize there is nothing to pass, or in turn, when you have already experienced a bowel movement you have a feeling there is more to come.
The hard and dry stools of constipation occur when the colon absorbs too much water and this happens because the colon’s muscle is slowly contracting causing the stool to move through the colon too slowly.
The common causes of constipation are: not enough liquids, the lack of exercises, medications, not enough fibre in diet etc. |

I started getting lots of stomach gas and intestinal gas (flatulence) after contracting an unknown respiratory virus. I have not yet got this virus out of my system, even after many years, and the symptoms are still there.
