I was suprised when, after having used tampons, i bled on a guys finger one night. so, i gues I tore... this forum's been really helpfull..

I would like to add that not every girl can be penetrated with just pain. my aunt got married and they had so much trouble she went to the dr and HAD to have it removed. she had a "double hymen" unfortunately that's all I know, but it seams usefull information. I would just see a dr, if you're involved with someone you should anyway, and they would be able to answer questions more fully, or discover something for you if they have trouble with the exam.

look, i understand the question. Confused

the answer as to WHY you would want your hymen removed by a doctor is pretty simple.

think about it.

losing your virginity, ESPECIALY to a guy that's already had sex...
well...
it can be very EMBARASSING. Embarassed
plus you're nervous...
& on top of all that it has to HURT.
& BLEED. Shocked
that's scary & very stressful sounding stuff to a girl that hasn't experienced it already. Sad

I totally get what she's saying & I agree.
It's PAINFUL...
It's obviously not pleasant so
why look foward to it?
Getting it over with in a doctor's visit seems better to me than having it brutally ripped out by a guy & then bleeding all over the place. Crying or Very sad

So that, my friend, is WHY somebody may find it a more comfortable situation to get it removed.
And I don't blame them.

Oh & P.S.
In my research the surgery does exsist. You may want to discuss the different options at your next visit to the obgyn. Very Happy

PEACE & LOVE MY DEAR FRIENDS

How about pain?

Guys may not realize this but it hurts like a f@#$^&* bitch for some girls - myself included - to attempt any kind of sex when they have abnormally tight vaginal openings. So yeah, I would say going to the doctor is justified.

No, there is no procedure for replacing or faking a hymen.
While a man may not know the experience of a hymen tearing, there are some of us who are sensitive and sympathetic.

Not all women will still have an intact hymen by the time they marry, for a variety of reasons... intercourse is one, use of tampon MAY be another... sports or horseback riding... bike racing... all possible explanations.

The description that some girls may be shuned or put to death for a missing hymen is one of those things from another culture that stuns us in the USA. There are so many reasons why it may be true that it doesn't seem like any kind of an indicator with any reliability factor.

But, once it is torn, or missing, it's gone.

Some women may want it removed by a surgeon, if only to avoid pain or bleeding. There are some well known cases in history, where a tough hymen threatened to frustrate a marrage of royalty, or disrupt the consumation of a marrage. These are other reasons why a doctor should be consulted.

I still don't know where the hymen is located. I've seen a picture on Wikipedia but it was small to see where was located. I don't even know if I still have minel. One time, (feel special I've never told this to anyone) I got in a horrible bike accident around the time I was in the 3rd grade. I was riding my bike down a steep hill with tremendous speed and I went over a curve which caused my body to jump off the seat and land on the metal part of the bike with my vaginals! It felt like someone had hit me with a bat in my vagina. Crap I still have nightmares. My vagina hurt for 3 weeks: I don't ride bicycles anymore.

The type of accident that you are describing is more common for a boy to experience with his bike than a girl. However, it is possible that your hymen may have been torn then.

Were you examined by a doctor? Did you bleed any? Do you remember any discussion along these lines at the time?

It's doubtful at grade 3 that the doctor would have made a big issue of it in front of you, as there is nothing to be done about it, and it certainly isn't a lifethreatening deal. There's no reason why they would call attention to it.

As for recognising it, you'd probably have to ask your girlfriend to be told if she were a virgin or not. The hymen is NOT an indicator of virginity or purity, although many cultures traditionally hold that it is, or was.

The only real concerns we have these days about breaking a hymen or tearing is in a case when one is particularly tough, or may "get in the way" of successful intercourse on a wedding night. This is most usually adressed in a GYN exam prior to a woman marrying, however there are cases where it has been in place and proved frustrating to both husband and wife until after a visit to the doctor's office.

In all my years, I must admit that I have never encountered one, so I can't tell you much more of how to recognise one. It is probably something that will not be evident to you. New husbands are always advised to "go slow" the first wedding night, in part, because of this.

If you must picture one, continue to search the internet, but you might also find drawings in medical books, or in "The Guide for Getting it On" by Paul Joannides. It's a hip book that approaches all things sexual with a light, humorous touch.

Here's one labled photo for you: coolnurse.com/anatomy.htm
As for where to find the hymen, my understanding is that IF it is present, it will be a thin stretch of skin below the labia, covering or partially covering the opening of the vaginal canal. It is external.

But I really won't push a discussion with your girlfriend as this is a most initimate question for a woman. Aren't there other aspects of your relationship that are more important? Issues of trust, compatibility, planning, education, compassion? That should be your real focus.
