You are still a virgin until you have had sex, whether or not your hymen is broken. Many peoples hymens are broken before they even have sex. This can happen by horseback riding, masturbation, inserting a tampon, or lots of rough housing... etc

If you have a mirror you can actually SEE your hymen down there... it may be still there... it may be partially torn... or it may be gone completely. It will hurt no matter what when you break it, so many people prefer breaking theirs before sex to make sure theres less pain the first time. There are a very small amount of people born without hymens as well.
