I am 25 years old. I am sexually active. I have been on birth control for the last 8 years. I have been on the same birhtcontrol (Ortho-Cept or the off brand of it) for the last 7 of those years. Normally the day before my period I get a dark brown discharge and then my period starts. I assumed that this was "old blood" clearing out as the new blood starting coming down. However this time I am a week away from my period and I had that same brownish discharge. I doesn't hurt, has no odor, and generally doesn't bother me. Is this normal or does it mean something else since it isn't at the same time as normal?
