I am currently 35 years old and had double bunionectomies performed at the age of 17. I have since had the pin removed from my right foot at the age of 23 when it slipped and caused major irritation. I still have the screw in my left foot which is really beginning to irritate my foot, especially during humid weather (fortunately I have lived in the desert for 4 years). My left toe is always in need of cracking and recently has been causing me constant discomfort and stiffness (located at the source of the screw). The pin removal was quite uncomfortable, as it had grafted to the bone. Is removal of the screw an option or merely a discomfort I will have to live with for the rest of my life? My podiatrist is amazing and if this is a possibility I would love to have the procedure done before his retirement.
