hi,

Last saturday when I crouched down to feed my dog, I got 9 / 10 burning stabbing pain just below my right ribs, when I stood up the pain disappeared, if I pressed the area I got a 2/10 pain, if I squeezed the area I could reproduce the 9/10 pain. by saturday night the pain had moved from the right to the left side under right rib cage, symptoms the same.

By sunday morning the pain had moved more left, and lower, and the pain on the right re-appeared so was now in two places. Symptoms the same when stood up no pain, when crouched 9/10 and grabbing a big lump of skin and squeezing could reproduce the 9/10 pain.

By sunday night I had a bowel motion, not constipated really but more difficult than normal, immediately followed by extreme loose bowel, very watery but only one. pain on left though did not really subside.

1.5 hours later, another more difficult than normal bowel motion followed by another extreme loose bowel, mostly water.

By monday I had a dull pain when stood up from right all the way to left and then down a bit. If I crouched the pain still would go to a 9 out of 10 especially on the left hand side.

By monday, bowels had returned to normal, but pain still there.

By tuesday bowels still normal, but pain quite bad on left side, and still some on right, pain while stood had increased, and coughing would cause 6 out of 10 pain in the lower extreme left of abdomen. Right hand side under rib cage not as bad now.

Recent changes to my habits are:

Over the last 14 weeks I have been on a "shake" diet, replacing two meals a day with diet shakes and normal meal at dinner, I have gone from 112Kg, to 88Kg over this 14 week period. Bowels have had cyclic problems over this period of time, but nothing like this. Adding fibre to shake seemed to clear most problems I had over the 14 weeks.

over the last 7 days I have again started taking my "Panadeine Forte (32mg codiene) 4 per day, and valium 2 per day due to an increase in my back injury pain, probably due to change in posture since losing so much weight aggravating the area.

I had put the constipation episode on saturday/ sunday down to the codiene but the burning / stabbing pains that have remained I have never experienced before.

Do you have any idea what this maybe?

I am male, 49 years old, no previous problems except for back injury 3 years ago, and have rarely had constipation with codiene before that increase in water intake has not fixed, and never experienced pain like this.

regards
nicw
