My 78 year old mother is scheduled for cataract surgery soon and I am full of anxiety. She has alzheimer's and her physical health has slowly been deteriorating. Her health has been like a roller coaster ride the last few years, at present she is not doing well mentally or physical. The winter months seem to have a negative effect on her. She is more confused, depressed and has lost more weight. Should we wait and have the surgery later hoping her health will improve? I am all for her having the surgery as I feel improved eyesight might help with her other problems but I am also very nervous about it. Looking forward to your reply.
As far as I know, Alzheimer's is not a curable disease but a progressive one. Ok, with proper medications, it can be stabilized for some people…..it all depends!
What I am trying to say id that I wouldn’t postpone the cataract surgery, but hey, I am no doctor and I don’t know anything about your mother’s health or the progression of her illness.
I think you should consult a doctor who has been treating her. S/he is the one who could give you the best advice regarding your mother’s overall health. I hope everything goes well with the surgery!
